Suburban 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles
2003 Suburban 1500 4WD, rattle and clunk in steering column, nothing loose in the steering just clunking noise while driving. Vehicle has 26000 miles on it, but was over 3 years old. Curt warner Chevrolet said it was a common problem... no warranty or recall. In fact he pulled a U-joint and shaft from his desk to show me what the noise was comming from in the column.

When turning a corner steering column shook and made a clanking noise. Dealer stated intermediate shaft failed, and they were awaiting information from the manufacturer to make the repairs.

Loose motion in steering and knocking sound. Had to wait on repair due to dealer informing us of backorders on intermediate shafts. Dealer had said there were many complaints of this same nature. We also had 2 family members to have theirs repaired. Dealer repaired, but we had to pay for all repairs.
