I was traveling down the highway from Wisconsin to southern Missouri about a 550 mile trip and when there was about 30 miles left in the trip the engine just died. it died when traveling about 75-80 mph when going down a hill. it took a couple of tries to get it started and when could the only way i could get it to not die was to keep in the throttle hard. i had to get off and on the highway several time cause i wasn't sure the it was make it to the nearest dealer. luckily i had my laptop with a wireless broadband card and was able to find a Chevy dealer. by the time i got to the street that the dealer was on it sounded like a 40 year old Cutlass, that hasn't been taken care of, ha. this happened one other time exactly a year ago only same trip same suburban only i had about 10 miles left and i was in the hills that are really up and down so it was even more scary to go up and down those hills with no power steering and no power brakes, when the shoulder is a 5 foot ditch. that was scary. and both times the dealer didn't find anything, and i think its because they weren't open so i had to wait the whole weekend and the truck had the time to heal it self. other than that the truck runs like a top.

Suburban 2500 V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

While driving in temps above 90 degrees the engine will stall, the only thing I can come up with is a possible vapor lock in the fuel system. I have to pull over and open the hood to let it cool off before being able to start it again. I'm at the point where the only fix I can think of is adding a hood scoop... Took it to a dealer once on the road when it was acting up and they didn't find anything wrong.

The engine loses power and dies at highway speeds. I love my suburban, and if anyone has had this problem and knows how to fix it, or if you think you may know how to fix it leave a solution. I do not wish to buy a new suburban cause they do not offer the vortec 8100.
