Had same type problem except fan only worked on 5 setting....then weeks later would not work at all. I am going to replace the resistor on the blower motor.

The air conditioning/heater dial stopped working on level 5, then stopped working on level 4, then stopped working at all. I thought it was the whole control panel (very expensive!)until I researched it and found someone with the exact same problem. They reported that it was the resistor on the blower motor just under the dash board. Their resistor had melted! I checked mine and it was completely melted too. We replaced the resistor and the wiring cable for under $200 and it was simple to do. I went through the winter with no heat in the car and part of the summer with no air conditioning until we figured out what was wrong and how to fix it without it costing a small fortune.

For no apparent reason the fan quit working. Switch and fuse seem fine. I have no idea whats wrong with it.
