This model is equipped with a takata airbag that the manufacturer (takata) has deemed unsafe, especially where I live, in hot and humid Louisiana. I have been to the local dealership multiple times to ask if a remedy is available and the dealership has said each time that a fix is not available. Why do some manufacturers recognize and fix the issue while others ignore the issue. If I am not mistaken, other manufacturers ask owners not to drive. I am concerned about safety. Takata recall. The contact owned a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving out of the driveway at 5 mph and making a left turn, another vehicle crashed into the driver's side wheel of the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained whiplash, and injuries to the left arm and bruises to the chest. The contact's son was seated in the rear of the vehicle and sustained bruises to the chest from the seat belt retracting. Both occupants received medical attention and were transported via ambulance. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence where it was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would send an inspector to check the air bags of the vehicle, and provided case number: 930596. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
