We bought our 2009 Surburban with 200,000 miles on it. The engine and everything else has been replaced and it drives beautifully, I don't think it has anything to do with the engine or anything like that. This began to happen about September when it started to get cold. When we started it in the morning, the heater/AC did not want to come on and didn't come on for a while. It's been awhile since it's happened. We were driving at night and we were on an on ramp. My whole family was in the car along with my 4 year old.
First it began with the Stability control light coming on, along with the traction control. I was annoyed that it had come on like anyone else would be because no one wants their car messing up. Then when we approached the onramp, the door locks began to unlock and relock rapidly, then the headlights were flickering on and off, then there were warning messages saying: service abs, service stability, service airbags... practically every warning message. The dome lights were flickering and worse of all the rpms we're shooting up and down but there was no acceleration, it was almost like the car was dying and then when it would come back, it would shudder and jerk.
I am so grateful we didn't loose power steering completely or engine power because we for sure would've fallen off the on ramp. I think I am incredibly bothered by this because my 4 year old was in the car and wouldn't want anything to happen to him. I'm not sure what it could be, but when we got home and the car turned off, the car completely died out and it reset everything inside the vehicle.
This is a serious danger hazard - it could be a loose cable - but if anyone else has had the same issue and knows the problem please let me know, I can't drive a car that could possibly die completely on the highway.
