My name is [xxx] I'm the owner of a 2011 Chevy Suburban and one day I took my wife to the hospital for surgery and when I came out after 4 hours my Suburban had 2 cracks on the dashboard one next to the passenger airbag and one next to the left on top of the gauges panel. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Dashboard is cracking in different spots, 2 places in the last few months. I'm concerned that it can possibly come apart while I'm driving. The cracks happened while driving. I know the crack next to the airbag cracked because the material is to thin to support the weight of the speaker in the dash, I'm guessing the rest of the dash is also made the same way, so any vibration or hitting any potholes is causing it to break. I have heard that this is a big problem with all of these gms and gmcs in the mid to late 2000S. Something need to be done about it before someone gets hurt while driving these vehicles. GM knows about this problem and won't do anything about it. So much for the government bailout!

I have 3 cracks in the dash of my Suburban. 1 is in the far left, front corner of the passenger side air bag, and the other 2 are in front of the steering wheel, about 8 inches apart. My concern, aside from paying so much money for a vehicle and having the dash crack for no reason, is that the airbag being deployed on the passenger side may send plastic pieces flying at the passengers face. There is obviously a defect in the production of these dashes, as I have read other people state the same issue, in the same spots. I encourage General Motors to issue a recall on this part, as it could pose a dangerous situation in the event of an accident. The vehicle was parked during the period the dash cracked.

Vehicle developed two cracks on the top of the dashboard assembly. One crack is located on the passenger side of the vehicle, running from the forward-left corner of the passenger side airbag to the defroster vent. The other crack is on the driver side, inboard and slightly forward of the instrument panel "hump." Cracks discovered while vehicle was stationary. I understand this to be common, known manufacturer defect for this vehicle and related General Motors vehicles (e.g., GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Avalanche, Tahoe, etc.). this is a safety issue due to the location of the cracks potentially affecting passenger side airbag deployment, creating a dangerous shards of flying plastic in the event of a passenger side airbag deployment, the potential negative impact on the structural integrity of the dashboard and subsequent non-compliant performance during a collision, and potential dust and water intrusion into the interior of the dashboard through the cracks which would affect the various electronic components located in the dashboard interior.

I have a large crack in the dashboard over top of the instrument cluster. I don't know how or when it occurred. I first noticed it in the beginning of October, 2014. Because of its location it is not easily visible and it's possible it may have been there for some time. I found this is a common problem with GM products and GM refuses to address the issue. I went to my local dealer about it and they told me it's not covered under the extended warranty I purchased. I feel this is a safety issue due to the potential further deterioration while operating the vehicle.

There are two cracks in the dashboard, one over the driver console and one on the top left of passenger airbag....nothing has occurred to cause these cracks, but I am afraid if airbag is deployed, the dash will break up and hurt us.

The vehicle dashboard has developed major cracks in two places. One crack is adjacent to the passenger side air bag. The other crack is above the steering column. I am concerned that the entire dashboard will become shrapnel if the airbag system was to deploy. Additionally, the entire dashboard "flaps" when the vehicle is moving.

Dashboard cracked above instrument panel and airbag.
- Santa Fe, NM, USA
Noticed dashboard crack at left hand side of passenger air bag compartment and above instrument cluster on driver's side.

My 2011 Chevy Suburban has two cracks on the dash, both connecting to the airbag. I have concerns of this weakening the dash which could cause sudden deployment of the airbag. I also have concerns that in the event of deployment, , pieces of broken plastic could cause injury, as did in an accident of another vehicle. My vehicle has been garaged for a year when not used. It was previously owned before that. This is my sixth Suburban. The kind of money we pay for these, even preowned, should cover better than the plastic dash that's falling apart. The warranty had just expired about 4 months before I bought it. It was still under the 36000 miles when the first crack was noticed but time had expired.

We own a 2011 Chevy Suburban and one day noticed two cracks on our dashboard. One crack leads straight into the passenger air bag and the other crack is over the dash console on the driver side. Because our Suburban is out of the 36K mile warranty we were referred to GM. We called GM and were told that we would have to pay $450 out of our pocket to get it fixed. We are very concerned that either 1) the air bag may not deploy in case of an accident or 2) that it will deploy on its own while we are driving. We are very disappointed that GM is not willing to stand behind their product and replace at no cost as this is clearly either a manufacturer defect or a poor quality product.

2011 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. Attorney representing consumer writes in regards to serious structural and safety issues concerning the vehicle. The consumer stated water was leaking inside the vehicle. According to the invoice, the dealer found the water leak coming from the body seam below the dash along the firewall. The passenger and driver front seats made a chattering noise. The dealer greased the tracks. The engine was not running correctly. The dealer replaced the throttle position sensor. Also, the front windshield wipers were inoperative, as well as the rear windshield wiper. The dealer found no power open circuit at the connector and allegedly repaired the wiring to the wiper harness.

Dash crack at passenger airbag.
- Bryceville, FL, USA
Dash cracked next to the airbag panel on the passenger side. This could cause the airbag to fail to deploy.

A small crack began on the driver side of dash board. Within weeks, the crack became much bigger. After two more weeks, I noticed another crack on the passenger side of the dash. Soon, it became much larger too. Now, there are several cracks on the dashboard. This automobile was not involved in any type of accident or driving on rough terrain. I don not understand why the dashboard would crack. I have never owned a vehicle which has had this happen.
