I've seen several reports of this issue in model years older than this one. Supposedly many of the issues were resolved prior to the 2012 production run, however, the problem is still the same despite the new AFM Valve shield, and relocation of the pcv valve in the drivers side valve over. I've yet to disassemble anything to investigate but I'll begin by removing the spark plugs and look for signs of oil fouling. Moving to checking the valve seals and verification of the pcv valve relocation (though it should be obvious from the exterior location of the pcv valve). Additionally, I may try to use the Uper Engine and Fuel Injector Cleaner (GM P/N 88861803) in the cylinders to see if freeing up the piston rings which may have become 'clogged' with burnt oil. It seems necessary to perform an oil change immediately following this step to remove the now contaminated oil.

That link may be of assistance to some. It is the NHTSA.gov TSB regarding the issue.

Have added in excess of 5 quarts of oil on two separate occasions in between 3,000 mile oil changes. Would like Chevrolet to take responsibility for this and fix it please.

Spend a ton of money for Suburban and have a problem like this is not acceptable. Got rid of 2005 for same reason.

Oil was changed at approx 72,000 miles. New filter and Quaker State Full Synthetic 10W-30 oil. Current mileage as of Oct. 11, 2015 is 78409 miles (15% oil life remaining). I have had to ADD 8 qts. of oil so far. There are no visible leaks and exhaust does not smoke excessively. This is definitely not normal. Engine runs good otherwise.

We purchased this Suburban used in 2012 from a dealership. Noticed right away it was consuming oil. Had the engine worked one by a dealership and finally end result was notified needing an engine replacement. $6700 plus tax was the quote.
