Suburban

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

Bought 2019 4x4 Suburban w/ 6 speed 6Ll80 NYC trans 08/15/2015 from Hertz Rental sales. Immediately had to replace the 2w - 4wheel encoder (shifter) at which time trans fluid replaced (claim was unless the unit is shifted in / out 2 - 4 the encoder fails) in June 2022 at 62580 miles had the transmission oil and filter changed; in Feb 2024 @ 68223 miles had the transmission serviced again ... per schedule now - 10 Sept 2024 I am told "the clutch pack, a wear item, smooths out shifting has shed slivers of metal - more bits of metal than the magnet in the bottom of the pan could capture - metal shards get into trans fluid, migrate to pumps - score pumps". The "anticipated lifetime of the clutch pack should last as long as the transmission - no replacement schedule" ... (don't worry insurance term used "a wear item" and should work for years and years)

I have never needed to service a transmission, yet I had this one done three times and the thing failed???

"Sorry about that" ............ for only $7032 plus tax I can have a brand new transmission with a three year warranty. (With a unit that fails at three years three months ???)

I haven't figured out what I shall do yet but Toyota looks good
