Tahoe LT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 208,000 miles

We've had this car a couple of weeks, and soon after we got it, the ABS & BRAKE light comes on whenever it wants to. The only way to get it to go off is to turn engine off & back on. We haven't had it checked out yet, and also haven't had any issues with not having brakes.

The lights are on most of the time. they come on and off kind of on their own. Which means that the ABS brakes are not working properly when they are on.

Tahoe LS 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 104,000 miles

The module at random will cause the ABS and BRAKE lights to come on and stay on. It also causes the ABS not to work sometimes and the brakes will lock up.

Tahoe 4x4 V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 126,000 miles

My ABS module shorted causing my breaks not to work properly! I was going 35 - 40 mph on the freeway. Slammed on my breaks & my truck fish tailed...it did a 180 clock-wise & I was facing on coming traffic on the freeway. It's a miracle that the truck didn't collide w/any other vehicles! Prior to this incident, the ABS & Break lights on the dash would come on intermittently but would go off when I would turn the engine off & back on. The dealership says it will cost $1,200. to replace the module.

Normally I would not complain about an automotive part going out except for the fact that I had to replace this same part in March of 2006. At that time the part was partially covered under an extended warranty and still cost $1200.00 out of my pocket to have replaced. I was told at that time by the dealership that this was a common problem and they did not understand why there was not a recall in effect for this. Their advise was to not use the emergency brake because the ABS module wears out when the brake release does not disengage properly. So I have not used it and this has accrued once again. The ABS light illuminates on the dashboard and the motor begins running and will not shut off unless the battery is disconnected. This effectively puts the vehicle out of commission unless you want to also run your battery down for an additional expense. Upon calling Chevrolet Motors about this problem I was informed that it would be a good idea to have this repair done at my own expense for the safety of my vehicle. In short, I am extremely unhappy about this situation!
