My 2003 Tahoe won't pass inspection for the parking brake, so I take in for repair. The dealer tells me the brake pads are worn. I don't use the parking brake very often and could not believe it. The dealer told me that the Tahoe applies the parking brake every time you apply your normal brakes. This is design flaw as I have never seen this in any other vehicle. GM recognized this so they came out with special clips to prevent premature wear on your parking brake pads. GM should have informed ALL their Tahoe customers about these clips long ago so they would not have to pay $250 to get new pads on a parking brake that is not used.
GM's customer service number (staffed by non-GM employees as in a contract service) won't do anything about it.
This problem is a design flaw in the parking brake and GM knows about it, but they refuse to inform their customers about the solution before they have to spend money on replacing parking brake pads.
