Like so many another people my 2004 Tahoe 5.3L V8 has a loud annoying knocking during cold start ups. I was told by my mechanic to use a full synth oil change. He stated it's a very common complaint and that adding this oil is NOT going to completely resolve the problem but may help for a little while. He was right. It did go away for about 4 weeks but now its back. I noticed it happens most frequently the morning after I had driven it for more then a couple hours. I'm finding this extremely annoying. I have always taken a great deal of pride in caring for my truck. I have NEVER gone so much as 1 mile over a scheduled oil change. GM really needs to do something about this now! There is far too many common complaints with this engine. Why on earth do they insist on biting the hand that feeds them.

Purchased a new vehicle (155 miles when I drove it off the lot) in 2004. It only has 56000 miles on it and all of a sudden this loud pinging noise appears in the mornings, once it would warm up it would go away. Within two days the noise did not leave. My mechanic states that the lifters are bad and need to be replaced at a cost of approximately $3000. I asked him if this happens frequently and he stated that the engine should just now be getting broken in, not broken. After reading the other complaints I to have recently had to put some anti-freeze into the engine even though I have never seen a leak! I have always owed Toyota's prior to this Chevy. I wanted to support American builders; but I must say, my truck has nearly 200,000 miles on it and all I do is change the oil. Has anyone had any luck fighting with Chevrolet???? Where can you find this bulletin that others have talked about. I don't remember seeing anything about a recall on any Chevy cars?
