After replacing my engine due to cracked Castech heads at just over 100,000 miles, I thought I would have smooth sailing for a while with my Tahoe. Wrong! When merging onto the highway one day, the transmission slipped badly on the 2-3 shift, causing the tachometer to briefly hit the rev limiter. I had never towed anything major with the Tahoe (just a utility trailer), the transmission fluid had been changed every 50k miles, and I had experienced no prior issues with the transmission whatsoever until that point. I was hoping it was an anomaly but it started happening more frequently as the weeks went by. I did some Internet research and found this to be a relatively common issue (search for 4L60E 2-3 shift flare if you don't believe me). I took it to a reputable local transmission shop and had it rebuilt. The problem was solved and the wallet was much lighter (once again).
