The right hinge on the back glass separated from the glass and eventually tore completely from the rubber mounting causing the lift arm to push the glass up. Glass must be held down to be able to open the back hatch. I see from many posts that this is a common problem that GM doesn't recognize. I'm just waiting for the glass to fall off and perhaps damage another vehicle or cause personal injury. Of course the entire glass must be replaced as significant cost. Typical GM products.

Right hinge on privacy glass has broken. I have a 2004 Tahoe i purchased in Feb' 04. The rear liftgate privacy glass has a plastic trim around the hinges. The right side seems to crack without any stress. GM want $800+ to replace glass. They would not help me because i'm the second owner. Which is understandable. But when they sent me to a glass company who could repar it for $300. The owner says he replaces seveal a month. He had three the day he picked up mine for repair. I guess the same person that had my Tahoe broke these too all on the right side. When is there going to be a recall or does someone have to be killed before they decide to look into this problem. I've found on the net that i'm not the only one with is problem it can happen on other years also.

One hinge bracket on the window broke about 3 years ago and I just got it closed and did not open it again. Just recently, the other hinge broke and the window is only held on by the hydraulic arms on each side of the window. The guys at the carwash told me that almost all the tahoes/surburbans that come in there tell them not to open that window because the hinge is broken on at least one side. I am afraid to continue driving the car with both broken hinges. I am afraid that the entire window will fly out and cause a wreck or hurt someone. When I searched this problem online, it seemed that a lot of people have the same problem and nothing is being done about it. The only option is to have it repaired and pay for it yourself.
