While traveling on the road, I cannot hear my radio because of the air coming into the vehicle. I have to turn up the radio louder than usual.

excessive wind noise excessive wind noise

At highway speeds, an annoyingly loud, intermittent, high pitched noise emanates from the passenger side dashboard area. At first I thought something was lose or broken. Checked all the windows, even pulled over. The noise happens at highway speeds, especially with a cross wind. It makes me jump and gives me a headache. The noise is there with the windows up or down. The noise began shortly after I purchased the vehicle (Sept 2014) and continues to this day.

I have reported this problem to Chevrolet several times. In April of 2015, a technician found an article from GM discussing a “Wind Whistle Noise at Highway Speed”, Document ID 3818620, #PIT5280. This article states to install a foam strip in the recess between the chrome surround of the grille and the sight shield (refer to my uploaded pictures). The dealership installed this foam strip on 4/15/2015. The sound disappeared for a short while, then began to return. When I took the Tahoe back in, the technicians stated that the foam strip was loose, and replaced it. This diminished the sound but did not eliminate it. To this day, this is the only fix GM has for the problem. So what is the plan? To continue replacing a foam strip? How often? Monthly?

The foam strip is a cheap short term “fix” for a long term issue that is not going away. I plan to trade off this Tahoe ASAP.

My gripe is that I’ve paid $68k for a 2015 vehicle that has issues that the service team didn’t/ can’t resolve. Over the past year, I’ve put it in the shop for issues ranging from; Driver side seat problems, excessive wind noise, steering column clicking noise issues and rear end noise. The driver side seat issues has been in the shop at least three different times. Each time there was a different approach/part that needed to be ordered. The last fix appears to be working (fingers crossed).

There still remains two issues that have not been resolved (excessive wind noise in the cabin compartment and excessive clicking noise in the steering column). During my last visit to Winegardner, I requested the service manager Doug to go on a test drive to point out the issues. He stated that he clearly heard the noise. We then test drove another vehicle (same year and model) and he confirmed that those noises were not present which indicated that the problem was isolated to the vehicle I owned. After completing the GM recommend fix (Steering column bearing replacement), the steering noise improved but was not fully resolved. The issue I have here is that the ticked was closed out as Normal trait of the vehicle. GM used that to get out of doing anything addition. The service manager (Doug) acknowledged verbally that there was clearly an issue, but CYA write up in the ticket was the show stopper.

When I reported this to GM, they referred back to the close out ticket (Normal trait of the vehicle) offered and apology and a 1 year OnStar subscription, REALLY… That didn’t fixed the problem. Because of the numerous issues and repeated visits over the past year, I requested a bye back as I felt/feel that I have a lemon. GM replied that my vehicle did not meet the criteria for a bye back and simply offered a free OnStar subscription renewal.

Meanwhile, I have a vehicle with steering column issues that have not been resolved. In the event that there are future issues with other vehicles and God forbid result in accidents or possible injuries, they will not be able to argue a case for not knowing (Law Suite in the making).
