Tahoe

  • 79,000 miles
On multiple occasions the brake pedal has been very hard and difficult to depress. As a result, it has taken all of my physical effort to press the pedal hard enough to get the vehicle to come to a stop. Fortunately, these instances have occurred while operating the vehicle at slower speeds (during stop and go traffic and at stop lights). This problem has been extremely intermittent and I've not been able to replicate the issue on demand. This is a major safety concern due to the unpredictability of the system failure.

Vacuum pump: Brake pedal is very stiff and hard to brake when traveling at slow speeds, but it is very sporadic. When this happens I have to apply extra force to the brakes to try and stop the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle used in August 2016 and experienced this a few months after buying my Tahoe in early 2017. The dealearship said they were not aware of any issues or recalls at the time I called. I continued to drive my Tahoe, but with caution at slower speeds since I did not know if or when this would happen again. I ultimately decided to bring my Tahoe in for further diagnosis after it happened again and began happening more frequently. I experienced the same stiff brake issue at the car wash recently on 02/16/19 and when parallel parking a couple months ago, almost resulting in accidents in both cases. I took it to the local GM dealership on 02/18/19 for an electronic power steering recall (unrealted to this issue) and they knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned it to them. After the diagnosis it was determined that the vacuum pump was faulty and it was replaced.

Loss of braking power at slow speeds going forward or in reverse. The brake pedal becomes very hard to depress and meanwhile the vehicle is still moving. Also the brake pedal is very hard to depress when starting the vehicle in the mornings with the electronic start button. I almost hit a parked car on a parking lot when backing into a space with a car in the spot behind me. Happened several times when approaching a red light traffic signal. I first noticed this approx. A year ago, but thought it was just a temp. Fluke of some kind, but it happened sporadically several times since then. When this happened again at the mall on 2/16/19, that was the final straw.... better report this before something terrible happens.

While driving 10mph or less the vehicle will not stop the brakes are very are and stuff will not allow you to stop nor while reversing! I've almost hit someone walking and someone car! I ran into our industrial fan in our garage because I couldn't stop. We almost lost our lives twice while my 7 year old daughter was in there becywe couldn't break. I've called dealerships and GM bout problems and they stated that they've had several complaints about it but it's not recall and that can not reimburse me especially if I ket a third party fix it. I'm unemployed and pay a note on this vehicle. I've had problems since I purchased it brand new! also the rear camera never work it barely work it's a very small one the dealership said they will install the regular one in that every Tahoe has because mine has a defect and it's not the touchscreen that all tables have and no parts for this one but GM wouldn't agree with it they've done everything to the back up camera and it keep going in and out and has to have updated my link radio. That's dangerous. As well as the brake cable keep slipping and causing major sqeaking when going over bumps speed bumps and etc. And the motor mounts still not fixed I've taking it several times about the major shake and vibration from it while at lights or still and they've changed them out shaved them down still no help so they were still waiting on GM to come out with a part to fix it. My warranty has expired now this all needs to be fixed and replaced I have a daughter and we are scared that something will happen. The brake issue had been going on for a year and eventually it gotten worse and couldn't stop at all. Brake pump and vacuum pump. What does it take for us to loose our lives for it to be fixed. I've had someone to fix the brake issues and it cost a lot and GM will not reimburse me please help I have proof and receipts of everything.

While driving at low speeds I am unable to stop the car by applying the brake. This happens when going in forward or reverse. The brake pedal just gets hard and doesnt stop the vehicle. The dealer said it is a bad mechanical brake vacuum pump that needs to be replaced. This is the ultimate saftey concern as I almost hit someone that was walking across the street, because I couldnt stop the truck. GM needs to accept accoutability and recall this faulty part

Tahoe

  • 77,000 miles
I have 77K miles in my Chevy Tahoe. Recently, my brakes failed almost causing an accident. My brake pedal became very hard and I was unable to make a sudden stop. If there was another car in front of me it could of been serious resulting in major injuries. My vehicle continued to roll forward approx 20 feet before coming to a complete stop. When I contacted our local GM dealer I was advised to not drive the vehicle and get it towed. I've researched that many of this year and models have experienced the same defect with the brakes. Calling it the faulty vacuum pumps. What is even more frustrating is in September of 2018 I felt vibration in my brakes and the tech recommended to reolace my front brakes which I did. My vehicle is now getting repaired but in the meantime there are millions of the models out on the same roads your family and friends drive on, totally unsafe. GM needs to recall and make this right for all of us.

Tahoe

  • 50,000 miles
At low speeds my brake pedal would get extremely hard to push down causing the car to be difficult to stop. After turning off the vehicle and turning it back on it seemed fine. A few weeks went by with no issues and then it returned when backing out of my driveway. Turned the vehicle off and on and it seemed to be working fine. Another 3 days passes and then brake pedal gets hard and can barely stop the car causing a close collision. The service brake assist light comes on and the brakes are extremely difficult to push to make the car stop. Drove the vehicle home carefully due to needing to step on the brakes extremely hard. Replaced the brake booster and still not working. Replaced the vacuum pump and line to fix the issue. This caused many close calls as the first time I was backing into a parking spot and almost hit the wall. The other times I was driving through a drive through almost hit the car in front of me and driving through a neighborhood towing and almost hit the car in front of me at the stop sign.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving 10 mph or less, the vehicle required excessive effort to stop. The contact stated that the brake pedal became very difficult to depress, which made it difficult to slow down or stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to koons Chevrolet (located at 10207 philadelphia rd, white marsh, md 21162, (410) 931-8600) where it was diagnosed that the brake vacuum pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000. The VIN was not available.

Since may the brakes have not worked intermittently and to stop the car I had to press down as hard as possible. Early on I had the fluid levels and brake pads and rotors checked and was told they were fine so I was not sure of the problem until I saw a bulletin from your office. I then took it to the dealer who diagnosed it as low output from the vacuum pump. It cost nearly $700 to replace and in my opinion should be put on recall as it is very dangerous to have the brakes fail intermittently. I almost had a number of accidents due to this issue and had to have my vehicle pulled from the water when launching my boat.

Tahoe

  • 107,700 miles
Failure in brake vacuum pump caused my brakes to improperly work this me rear ending another car. Brake felt like a rock and pushed back against my foot. I was in motion at roughly 15mph and was able to slow to roughly 8mph at a distance of roughly 10 yards. This was during rush hour traffic. Problem had been intermittent at very low parking lot speeds.

Tahoe

  • 40,000 miles
The brake pedal becomes almost impossible to depress at low speeds causing the vehicle to roll without the ability to stop. Seems like the brake booster is failing to apply pressure to the brake system. Have read several complaints on this so I wanted to document one more case to push GM for a recall. My family almost had a bad crash the other day due to this and now it happens all the time. ABS is not activating to cause this, it is more a lack of boost in the brake system. We only have 40,000 miles on our truck.

2015 Tahoe was being backing up into parking space and lost all capability to brake. Vehicle with 64,500 miles (out of warranty) and no other previous mechanical issue. Incident did not result in an accident or injury but vehicle was towed to Chevrolet dealership after researching problem and identifying other late model Chevrolet trucks owners with similar braking problems. Owner described problem and informed dealer of Chevrolet technical service bulletin. Vehicle was repaired with replacement of brake booster, vacuum pump, and brake vacuum sensor. No recurrence since repair and vehicle now operating as designed with 66,700 miles.

Brakes suddenly became extremely hard to apply at low speeds. Brake pedal was stiff and wouldn't engage. I first noticed it while pulling in a parking space then reversing to straighten the vehicle. The brakes wouldn't engage and I had to press the emergency brake. This first occurance happened approximately 5:00 pm on November 11, 2018 in orlando, fl. At this time, I noticed the issue but after I turned off the vehicle and restarted, it appeared to be resolved. I continued my evening and drove several places and eventually drove back home to tampa, fl without any issues. Upon reaching my destination and attempting to parallel park, the brakes failed again. I turned of the car and restarted it and the brakes did not engage and the brake pedal was stiff. I did not drive it again. I suspected an issue with the vacuum pump and had the vehicle towed to dimmitt Chevrolet in clearwater, fl the following morning. Dimmitt "verified concern. Performed diag. Found engine vacuum pump is weak and not pulling enough vacuum at times." Dimmitt "removed and replaced vacuum pump."
