About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The sliding center console/armrest in my 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe moves too easily and does not remain securely locked in place when fully extended forward. Even light pressure, such as when a passenger or driver rests an elbow, can cause it to shift suddenly. This can startle the driver and cause a momentary loss of focus, creating a safety hazard while the vehicle is in motion. When the console is fully extended forward, it should lock in position. In my vehicle, it often fails to stay locked, allowing unintended movement in each direction. This happens during normal driving conditions and can be triggered accidentally by an occupant-??s elbow or arm. The sudden movement is distracting, especially at highway speeds, and could contribute to an unsafe driving situation. GM issued TSB PIE0677B in April 2022 describing this exact condition (-??Power Floor Console Armrest will not lock in place and/or console lid slides back and forth freely-??), indicating they are aware of the defect. However, there has been no recall. Given the potential for distraction and loss of control, this should be addressed as a safety recall.
