The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker. The contact noticed that the rear axle was leaking. The dealer was notified, but offered no assistance. The manufacturer was contacted and also offered no assistance. The vehicle was repaired by an authorized dealer. The current mileage was 14,597. The failure mileage was 608. Updated 01/11/2011. Updated 2/17/11 the consumer stated the right rear axle seal has been replaced three times and has failed again since the vehicle was new. Updated 08/31/11.

Rear brakes became inoperative. The left rear axle seal was found to be leaking transaxle fluid and contaminating the left rear brake shoes. Brake failure could have resulted in accident, injury and possible death. Local service garage replaced left axle seals and bearings. Replacement was not covered under warranty.

Front transaxles fluid leaking from LH front drive axle. Leaking fluid could contaminate brake pads and cause unexpected brake lock up and a possible accident. Dealership found inner axle shaft seal to be defective. Dealership replaced inner axle shaft seal under warranty.
