The indicated vehicle is my wife's. we bought it brand new on 09/26/2001. She has never towed anything and has city and highway miles. We have had numerous problems: Instrument cluster, rear tailgate strap, right rear brake light, (3) solenoids, spare tire dropdown and deteriorated transmission lines. I have repaired all of the previous out of pocket (except for the strap and the spare tire dropdown). Now, my wife was on the way to the bicycle store in her truck, with the bicycle on the back. She was making a turn onto the main road when she heard grinding and squealing, and the speed dropped drastically. Luckily, it was around 10am when there is not much traffic on the road. Reading numerous posts on this website, it is the same problem everyone has had, the transmission sun shell, and no reverse. With 98911 miles, I was about to spend the weekend changing the fluid in the transmission to keep it to spec. Now, I'm looking at a very expensive bill of which I cannot afford. $30 is easier than $1200. And, I'm a manufacturing engineer, so I check fluids regularly, even though the oil change stations check them. Seeing that there are problems with these components, I think that General Motors should produce a recall. I'm very disappointed that with all of the complaints, nothing has been done to remedy the situation. We will be calling the dealer that we bought the vehicle from first thing Monday morning.

Bought 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer which operated fine until 2 yrs ago. First, the speedometer goes nuts, the needle registers faster speeds than car is going. Some days it would work, some days it would not. Now it points past 120 mph, directly downwards, stuck there and does not move at all. Sitting still in my driveway the speedometer shows its going over 120 mph. The gas gauge goes nuts next. The needle goes past full and back around to the gas pump icon and stays there. The tachometer followed suit doing the same thing and indicating rpms past the 9000 range and doesn't settle back at zero with engine off. And now the temp gauge is showing 200 - 250 degrees when the engine is started. As far as I can tell the voltage and battery gauges are still showing normal readings - so far. Am I speeding, is my engine about to blow up, or am I going to run out of gas? I have no way of knowing if I am driving the speed limit or unknowingly speeding, no idea how much gas is in the tank, unaware that my engine is revving up into a dangerous range or about to blow up; or if my engine is dangerously overheating. I depend on the instrument cluster to alert me to those dangers. There should have been a recall on these failing instrument clusters a long time ago but although hundreds have complained GM says they won't fix this issue on the Trailblazer. They don't care that we Trailblazer owners must drive our vehicles without working instruments. This situation is dangerous.

The electrical gauges on our 2002 Chevy Trailblazer did not function properly when the fan clutch failed, leading to engine overheating. The overheated engine blew the head gasket before the engine itself blew up. My husband was had just backed out of the driveway and had driven about 200 yards when this happened. It is important to note that warning systems malfunctioned: There were no lights, bells or any indication that complete engine failure was imminent. There wasn't even the odor of an overheated engine. If this had happened on our local freeway I could be suing GM over my husband's injury or death.

Although this vehicle was excluded from the recall, the contact did not feel obligated to pay for the repairs since General Motors was aware of the recall. 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer with problems with car radio customer wants reimbursement for repairs* some type of electrical problem caused a loud pop to come through the speakers. The caused the radio to short out and the speakers to blow. The radio and speakers had been replaced several times. The amplifier also had to be replaced. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer on numerous occasions but they have been unable to correct the problem. The middle seat belt in the second row locked up as soon as it was fastened into the buckle. When the defroster was used the consumer heard a clicking noise. The dealer replaced the mode actuator and mode valve per tsb 04-01-38-002. The quarter panel on the roof seam sealer cracked and was rusted. The pull down strap on the rear hatch broke. The sway bar broke. A grinding noise was heard coming from the left front wheel when making sharp left turn. The dealer determined that suspension was misaligned and caused shield to touch rotor. The instrument cluster gauge was inoperative. The rear wiper did not touch the rear windshield. There was a high pitched noise coming from the right side tire whenever in motion. The dealer indicated it was improperly sealed.
