This is the first of many problems on our 2002 Trailsquatter!!!!! At 78,000 the rack and pinion steering started leaking. Before we could get that fixed, the transmission failed just before my wife got onto I-75 to head up north. Luckily she got back to civilization when it quit completely. A police officer pushed her into a parking lot. $3000.00 later, the trans was rebuilt, new module for the transfer case, and pump for the transfer case! We finally had to have the rack fixed, it was covering our driveway with power steering fluid. 3 months later going up north, the 4whl drive light came back on. Knob was in 2whl drive position, but the light was on auto 4whl drive!!! I shut it off and restarted it and it seemed to cure it. We got up 3 days later to come home and the clutch on the cooling fan went out ($199 at AutoZone and I put it in) About a month or so later, the wife says it feels like it's in 4 wheel drive!!!!!!! I took it back to where I had it fixed and he unplugged the pump for transfer case, so we could make our trip!!!!! He thinks it's in the computer module. Well, before we got a solid 16mpg PERIOD, city or highway!!!!! (with it unplugged we now get 17.5/city and 21 highway. When I called GM on the tranny, basically, since I didn't by it at a Chevy dealer, I could go pound sand. No help there. Well I was happy that it was finally running right, til this morning. I went to replace another blasted taillight bulb (remember the recall?) and it didn't solve THAT PROBLEM Wasn't the bulb. That design sucks as well. I know we got a deal on it, but after keeping it running, I would have been better off buying another FORD PRODUCT

This began leaking power steering fluid onto the brake drum. I thought there was a problem with the brakes. Instead, I found out the rack and pinion was failing. We kept having to dump power steering fluid into the system to keep it from screaming and ended up having to have the entire rack and pinion replaced. I dropped over $2500 in repairs on this vehicle last year alone!
