Trailblazer 4WD 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles
The failure involves the electro-mechanical device that shifts the car into four-wheel drive. The four-wheel is engaged by selecting 4WD with a dashboard selector switch. The switch will show a lighted indicator moving from 2wd to the 4WD. This indication is faulty. While driving towards a snow covered mountain road with several sharp turns going up the mountain the vehicles selector switch was moved to the 4WD position and the indicator light shown it was engage in the 4WD mode. However the indication was faulty and the vehicle was actually only in 2wd. The selector switch engages an actuator that causes a fork to move the gears in the front transfer case into or out of 4WD. The result of the false indication of the vehicle being in 4WD when it was actually in 2wd cause the rear of the vehicle to break traction and the entire vehicle to start into a spin which resulted in the vehicle leaving the road and damage to the front end of the vehicle. The main problem is that the vehicle gave a false indication of being in 4WD when it was actually in 2wd.

I have a 2004 Trailblazer. I had taken it to the dealership service center on several occasions because of issues with it. The service engine light came on all the time. It would rev up the rpms for no reason and make a weird sound. It would not go into 4 -wheel drive or out of it like it is supposed to. And other things. I had it checked, and they said it was all fine and they couldnt duplicate the errors. However, subsequently, the transmission has gone out 4 times in the last 4 months. I have had it replaced 3 times. It is now at the transmission shop and they state that there is a problem with the engine has too much travel to it front to rear. The crank shaft specifically which is allowing the torque converter to pull away from the front pump and break the rotar assembly in the front pump of the transmission. This is getting expensive and frustrating. Are there any other people who have the same issues or is there an issue with the crank shaft" could it be the transmission is built wrong" this is rediculous!! I have only 70,000 miles on it. Why would I buy Chevy products if they continue to fail at such low miles.

I have had my trail Blazer for 1 yr and 1 month. In that time I have had to replace front and back pads and rotors, ball joints, catalytic (sp) converter, and now they just told me I have to replace the head gasket on the manifold. What the hell is going on with this vehicle. I no longer feel safe driving it. The other day the radio just stopped playing and then the service 4 wheel drive light came on.
