I have had many vehicles over the years, including three other Chevy's, and have NEVER heard of a fuel tank failure. This is not in a spot that it can be directly damaged, except by totaling the vehicle. It is certainly a manufacture defect, or material's defect. To make matters worse, the part is currently back-ordered. What does that say about the failure rate? I wish GM would man up and issue a recall.

2004 Trailblazer with a crack in the fuel tank, as I can see this is a common problem and should have been
a recall. The dealer told me it would cost $1200 to replace the fuel tank, the problem is at the neck of the tank. Does anyone know if this can be repaired. This vehicle has 89000 miles and is almost 10 years old and I have had to make numerous out of the ordinary repairs, (new odometer) at 50,000 miles. This will be my last GM product to purchase.

I bought this car used last March (2011). The dealer fixed the problem by replacing the gas tank (with a used one), & said it was all good. Within 2 weeks, the fumes started again, the check engine light was on, & the mileage sucked. Took it to a mechanic, who said the tank was cracked where it met the neck, & that it needed to be replaced. This was less than 2 weeks after it was replaced. The mechanic said it was "a known problem with trailblazers", he "saw it all the time", & that he was surprised they hadn't been recalled. I couldn't afford to replace it again, especially if it was just going to fail again. So I have been stuck with this dangerous lemon for a year that I can't afford to fix or replace. This is the only GM I have ever bought, and it will definitely be the last, if this is the crap product they put out there!!

Chevy admits the tank is bad and gave us a tank, but made us pay for labor.

I have always been a General Motors guy, but this is the end. I called customer service and they could have cared less. From what I understand, this is not a one of a kind occurrence. It is not a recall so there is nothing I can do except to pay up. Have to have it fixed before I can renew the license in Tennessee.

The check Engine light came on. Took to dealership and they said that there was a crack in the fuel tank and my husband wanted to get it checked by a local garage by another mechanic to make sure they were telling us the truth. Sure enough they ran a diagnostic check and found same problem and said in fact there was a significant leak. The mechanic also told me thsat it was very rare and he googled the problem on our make vehicle and he said there were tons of complaints on the 2004 Trailblazer with cracks in the fuel tank. There was a recall for the 2004 Trailblazer XLT with cracks in the fuel tank but not on the XT model which is the one I have and I only have a little over 48,000 miles on my vehicle, which is very low mileage. He said I should call GMAC and really push them to fix this problem under a extended warranty recall the same as the XLT. I am just getting started to find out how to contact the correct department of GMAC. I hope I get lucky and it is not painstaking to get to the right person to see if this can be covered under the recall.

Very bad gas smell last year when filled tank. Got recall in Dec. Car in Maine we in FL Home and to dealer in April. we qualify for new tank as has a crack. GM says it back ordered. It's now July and still no tank.
Have to use the car for Boston Hospital trips. GM suggested not fully filling the tank for safety reasons.
Can't park in garage. Am getting a bit fed up with this back order foolishness.
Any one have a suggestion??
