How the hell does a gas line up under the middle of the vehicle RUST????? And the gas line is metal and plastic!!!???? Why not all plastic....or a better quality of steel?

After running the engine a little I noticed a strong smell of gasoline. From a previous experience with a corroded and leaking power steering line and also a closed brake line this Trailblazer has a problem with a lot of the metal corroding.
About 2 years ago I noticed that the metal fuel lines that feed the engine were looking ugly especially where they mount to the frame (this is around the area the emissions take off is). Anyway, I popped open the hood and immediately went to look at this area. Yep, sure enough a good drip-drip-drip was going on.
The leak was dripping onto the universal joint of the driveshaft. Fortunately I didn't have to go anywhere so I shut everything down and ordered a new fuel line from O'Reilly's ($116). I will be working on the repair soon so I may post an update.
Do be careful about any fuel leak! I've got a 1992 Buick Riviera whose fuel lines must be stainless as those things look shiny. That car is now 29 years old and is a star! I love that thing!
