I just purchased this car used with 21,500 miles on it. The weather was really hot and as I took off after a stop light and suddenly the acceleration stopped working and the car slowed. The message light came on "Engine Power Reduced". I cleared the message (no code provided) but the check engine light stayed on. The car continued to fight accelerating at its normal rate, but once up to speed it seemed okay. I got to a place to pull over and shut it off for a minute or two. Restarted and check engine light remained on but the car ran fine. I checked the owners manual and it said if it was running okay after this error that you could drive with the light on, but if it recurred - get it to a service center right away. One week alter (6/19) it happened again, then again on 6/20, then twice on 6/21. Taking it to the dealer for service on 6/23. Online forums say that worse case it's the turbo solenoid and could take several weeks to get the part and a few days to fix. No guarantees the replacement part will be any better. Will report back.
Update from Jun 23, 2025: Good news. GM has issued a 'Special Coverage' bulletin for this issue. #N242484750 Turbocharger Replacement. Beginning Jan 14, 2025, they have extended the warranty to 15 years or 150,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the date the vehicle was originally place in service, regardless of ownership.
I took my car to the dealership today and was pleasantly surprised and relieved. This special coverage bulletin only applies to 2022 Buick Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazers.
