Traverse LS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 121,000 miles

The cost of the repair may be more than the vehicle is worth but I bought it 2 years ago from a dealership with 85,000 miles on it. This is the only vehicle I have to drive and I wanted to keep it. I owe more than what it is worth, but I still need to continue to make those payments. I can't afford to buy a new vehicle so I had to borrow the money so I could pay for an engine. If I would have taken that money and bought another vehicle I would still need to pay for the Traverse for the next 3 years. I like the vehicle and wanted it fixed. It is in the shop now and it should be done in a couple of days. I just feel that a vehicle should not have an engine go out at 120,000. I drove a Dodge Intrepid from 0 miles to 160,000 before I traded it in. I hardly had to put anything into it except for maintenance. I have always taken good care of my vehicles and I was very surprised that this happened. I know it is 7 years old, but for a vehicle that isn't that old. Maybe I'm being unrealistic but the Traverse is a nice looking vehicle and I like that I have room for my grandchildren. I just feel that Chevrolet should take some responsibility for a problem that others have had. An engine isn't cheap and I wasn't offered a warranty when I bought it. I just feel like I was taken, paying $14,000 on a 6 year loan. Engine goes out after 2 years of paying. That makes me very angry. I have had to borrow another vehicle from my son and I have to drive 50 to go to work. I have been without the vehicle for a month because of trying to figure out what to do.

Update from Apr 30, 2018: My engine had to be replaced. We purchased a new engine with a 3 year warranty. We didn't want to get a used engine because they are not trustworthy and we didn't want to have to replace it again. We need to be able to have this vehicle after it is paid for. I would never buy a Traverse again. I had an Intrepid that had 160,000 on it and was just starting to need some parts replaced. I could rely on it. I only bought Traverse for the size.

Traverse LT 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 89,230 miles

Today is June 26, 2017 my car has 89230 miles on it and has been at the mechanic's since Wednesday the 21st, 2017(he could not get to my car till today) because I heard a terrible knocking noise and then the car stalled in the middle of the parking lot of Red Box. Just got a call from my mechanic with the worst news ever (but almost expected) Threw a rod, engine is shot!! I'm devastated.... I'm not rich and cannot just run out and buy a car anytime I feel like it, (needed to get that off my chest) I'm going to be 60 years old and the 4 cars I have owned before this one has lasted years and years. Thought I would buy new and fell in love with the body style of the Traverse. Well the body is still perfect, so now if I want to spend $6000 on a new engine (there is no way... You can put lipstick on a pig... it is still a pig) I still would have the style I like. Chevy as we all know will not do anything to make this right for all of us out there (I'm sure I'm not the only one). OH! and the most awesome part about this whole EXPERIENCE, I have only one more car payment left.... Yeah !!
