Steering assist would stop working at low speeds, usually going through a light while making a turn. Replaced power steering pump twice before finding out about TSB regarding steering. Replaced power steering pump again, along with rack and pinion. Before replacing rack and pinion, both power steering pumps went out within 5 days of install. Worst Chevrolet I have ever driven in terms of repairs and repair costs. Definitely will not buy another Traverse. On a good note, my biceps looked great until I had it fixed the final time.

I am the original owner of my 2010 Traverse. Had a power steering fluid leak fixed at 30,000 mile. My power steering has had a high pitched squeal from the beginning. Now at 80,000 my power steering goes in and out while driving at low speeds. It started while pulling in and out of parking spaces and the problem has gradually gotten worse. I have noticed that the warmer temperatures outside seems to make the problem worse than during the colder temps.

What the HELL GM. This is the first time in my life that I feel totally insecure about driving a vehicle. How in hell is the power steering just cutting off and on while traveling at low speed. I do notice the "PARK ASSIST" function clicks on and have to go and put the car in park and select off and then it goes away. However shortly after driving the park assist kicks back on. Is there a particular fuse or override to stop this. I really feel for my family's safety and feel GM is doing another Key Lock cover up. How in hell is a car with 51K Miles having this issue with an engine that idles horribly to add.

power steering stopped working intermittently

June 2016 My power steering is on and off at low speeds, it's a fight to steer when it happens, turning. Either L or R. I've been reading problems and can't believe it, I've spent more for this car and it only has 87000 miles. When is the recall going to be?? This was the car that fit my demands for a new car. I've been in manufacturing for 30 years and know you can't overlook problems like this. Customers don't come back.

When either happen I get codes, codes codes:;;; stabilitrack off- traction control off--service brake system--service air bags---Ice possible drive with care (summer)--outside temp gage wrong---read input not working.

Well, I need my Traverse fixed, by the way my wife drives it and often gets our two 5yr olds and 15 yr grandkids, I would sell but cannot take the hit/lost. I'm 61. I am waiting for the correct answer---Dennis in Arkansas

First off we bought this car used. I have no doubt that the dealership knew of the problems which really pisses me off. This problem could at anytime take lives. One minute the steering is fine and the next it goes out and not a damn thing the driver can do.

We are grandparents raising 3 very young grandchildren (all in car seats) and bought this car to make our new life easier. So much for that. We have put so much money into this car that it's insane and can not afford to continue but cannot afford to not at this point.

All I have to say is this.......... Chevrolet, you are well aware of this problem. Shame on you and your money hungry ways!!!!!!!!!!! I truly hope that the next time you and your family go on vacation, that the manufacture of the aircraft you fly in has more respect for the safety of it customers then your company shows. One report of a power steering problem is one to many. Man up to your product and defect and stop taking food off my table. If I , my wife or grandbabies get injured in this car because you neglect to correct the problem and continue to ignore the steering problems with your vehicles that we bought as a good faith customers. I hope you all can live with that and the new cost of what you will then have to put out.

Steering would lock up at slow speeds, took to dealer they want 1100 to replace rack and pinion. Call factory rep who was no help. This is s serious problem and could cause a bad accident and possible a death. Can't believe that GM won't cover this. That why so many import car on the road.

GM rep told me that because I take my vehicle to local repair shop instead of dealer the dealer won't help me. Closes dealers is 8 miles, my repair shop is 3 block. * 8 miles is a long way to walk.*

I bought this 2010 Traverse new. At 50,000 miles the engine blew and I had to have a new one put in which thank God was covered. Now at 60,0000 miles the power steering stopped working and this makes it really hard to drive. Going around turns at a slow speed or God forbid you have to park it and get out of a parking spot. I have children and grandchildren that I drive around this is very dangerous and needs to be fixed before someone gets killed. I do not want to have to pay thousands of dollars to get this fixed my car is still not that old.

The vehicle began to under steer intermittently while driving through a mountain pass during a Friday evening. While driving through curves the car had to be slowed considerably below the speed limit to negotiate the turns. Once near our destination approximately 40 miles after first noticing the problem, found turning the vehicle at lower speeds (in parking lot) nearly impossible and improbable after narrowly missing a ditch instead of a driveway of the hotel. The following morning made appt. with GM dealer to evaluate, while en route (approx. 4 miles) the steering became more and more difficult to turn, when we approached the dealership, the steering wheel needed to be turned several times under extreme duress (as if there was hardly any movement of the steering rack itself) only to slightly turn the vehicle enough to get in the driveway and into the parking lot. Once the dealership was able to look at the vehicle, we were informed that the power steering unit had failed (not under warranty) and that because it failed it did not lubricate the steering rack properly therefore ruining and rendering the steering system inoperable. The repair has been quoted at $2600 with parts and 12 1/2 hours of labor. The steering system is an essential component to any vehicle, therefore we are greatly concerned for our safety and others due to the nature of this failure considering the vulnerability exhibited by the steering rack in the event of a power steering unit failure. I am absolutely befuddled that a vehicle that is only 4 years old, with less than 70,000 miles can have such a catastrophic failure. Had I not had the strength needed to fight the steering the vehicle could have easily failed to make a turn and certainly have been in an accident.

I bought the Chevy Traverse the first of September and didn't have a problem till a week or so later. low speeds the power steering would quit working. took to dealer and they said they knew of problem but no recalls. as he pulled up my warranty info it showed special coverage and I inquired on whats that He said normally recall work but would check when he checked it showed as of September 16 2014 that there was a problem with power steering assist and that it was covered for replacement of pump but mechanic had to see it happen. Had to argue a few minutes since it didn't happen when they drove it. finally got to manager and showed them where in there paperwork it said INTERMITTENT power assist failures. Which means not all the time so wasn't right that it had to happen for them when GM admitted wasn't a problem all the time.

If you see moms walking around with really buff arms they probably drive a Traverse. It is seriously almost impossible to turn the steering wheel (either way) about 90% percent of the time if you are going under 10 mph. The scariest instance (was when this problem was new to me) and I pulled out into a turn lane on a five lane highway not knowing I wouldn't be able to straighten up in the middle lane, hence leaving the nose of the car out in traffic. Luckily the other drivers were paying attention and stopped, of course thinking I was just an idiot driver.

A typical day looks like this: picture trying to get out of a parking place when you can't turn your tires but 1/4 of an inch, it only took me EIGHT times pulling forward and back to inch out of the Take Away at Ocharley's last night. Another fun situation is waving everyone coming the opposite direction at a stop sign to go ahead because you need their lane clear since you can't make sharp turns. The problem progressively gets worse by the way, so if it seems like your steering is a little tight, just wait.

Oh, and remember I said 90% of the time, the 10% of the time it apparently does work is when you take it to a dealership to have them check it out.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!! (there have been several other somewhat minor issues but this is ridiculous)

I have had the Traverse for 18 months and have replaced 2 water pumps, computer, 4 fuses, 8 sensors and air condition. After two new water pumps it still throws up antifreeze. Now it needs new Steering Head, Rack Pension and tire sensors, have already spent $6,000 on repairs and it need about $6,000 in repairs now.

The 2010 Traverse is a piece of junk I have called GM 5 times, same run around, filed report with BBB .

The car is in the driveway more than I drive it because I can't steer it and I have run up on curbs and sidewalks. Just hoping not to kill myself and 4 kids or someone else . SHAME ON YOU GM

Took the car to the dealer because I have intermittent Power Steering problems. They said it is operation fine at the time. But they did not take it for a real drive. Only 1 mile of driving was recorded. on the way home I was turning to my street and the Power steering gave out again. I almost hit my street sign. These Power steering issues need to be dealt with. The dealership seems to be ignoring the issue.

Power Steering issue, goes out for few seconds, and sometimes works great.

Usually very hard to back into parking lot or drive way, stops working when making a left and right, or right and left quick turn. Has put me very close to accidents on multiple occasions. I have sucked up the fluid from the reservoir about 6 times and replaced it with clean fluid. it did improve a little bit. But the steering is still not reliable.

I do not hear any noise, it just get hard like it does not work. I have owned cars where power steering fluid leaked out and could hear the vibration, but on this Traverse it is just gone.

While steering the car it suddenly became very difficult to steer.

Took it to local dealer in Manassas , VA .

They stated the power steering pump needed to be replaced.

Cost me about $150 for about an $800 repair.

Not bad, but still there should not be these type of problems with an auto before at least 150K miles as I always maintain my vehicles.
