The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the gear shifter assembly failed. Shift to park was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to recognize the gear shifter in park and failed to turn off due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to medved Chevrolet (11001 w interstate 70 frontage rd N, wheat ridge, co 80033), and it was diagnosed and stated that the gear shifter assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

Oct 2019 had gear shift harness replaced because shift to park was showing up and vehicle wouldn't turn off or lock. The same thing happened again in Dec 2019 and I had to have the shifter replaced. June 10 2020, vehicle stopped crossing a main road and it wouldn't move forwards or backwards. Had to let vehicle roll backwards to a semi safe spot out of traffic. Police had to be called because there is a lot of traffic in this area and I couldn't get the vehicle off the road. Vehicle towed to dealership and they said the transmission needs to replaced. They said there aren't any parts available to fix it due to GM being closed due to covid. I only have 21,000 miles on the vehicle and have had it for 2 years and 3 months. I don't have paperwork from the dealership and a police report wasn't filed because they only provided their vehicle for safety concerns.

I had purchase a 2018 Chevy Traverse from curry Chevrolet in the same year, I notice a little slipping with a little jerking sometimes a few months later and the shift to park was acting up. I called curry and asked them is there any problems or recalls with this model, service dept said no, then I had called a deferent dealership they said the same, and I had call curry about three times regarding my this problem, so I kept checking my VIN# on Chevy.com nothing comes up. So I went on line to find out I wasn't alone regarding these problems even with later models. Then I called customer care twice to make sure the info I was giving was the same, I had explained my problems with them, she said there are no recalls under my VIN# at this time, I went over my warranty with both customer reps, both were accurate that my vehicle is still covered. I also received info there is a bulletin out #18-na-121. I am hoping there wont be any problems correcting these issues, I am prepared for a fight getting a lawyer and going to many news stations, I don't understand why would you put a defective part not only in my model but others with out solving the problems first according to other owners that had posted the same problems with the powertrain. I am truly disappointed with Chevrolet, and to think I left Ford & Dodge.

Shift to park error message while the vehicle is in park. This prevents turning the vechicle off, locking the doors, etc. This problem has been well documented on several thousand vehicles. However, GM has only quietly fixed problem case by case and will not cover under power train warranty. A national recall should be issued asap to fix and replace the shifter. Poses a safety issue as well since it involves a faulty gear shifter.

They are not making it public-they are just repairing as customers bring them in with complaints.

We were traveling on vacation and were 2.5 hrs away from home at this time. We stopped to put gas. When we exit the gas station to enter enter the street (before entering the fwy), there was a loud grinding noise and we lost control of the vehicle. We were able to steer to the side of the road without being able to apply any gear change. The car was still on, but we were not able to accelerate the car. None of the gears were functioning, including, parking, drive, and reverse. We were left up hill and it was scary because even when the car was placed on parking, it was going downhill. Without placing the break on the car, the car would just keeping rolling down. We were lucky that the traffic was slow so we were able to guide the park down hill where the land was completely flat. My 2018 car was towed to the dealer and the service department stated the cause of this incident was a broken axle!! I drive my 3 Y.O. to school almost every day and I drive on the fwy to go to school about 4 times a week. This malfunction could have caused our and others lives. My car is supposed to be ready on Monday, but I am scared to drive it again.

First issue is, when you stop driving the Traverse, place it in park and hit the button to turn off the engine, it will shut off the engine but not the electronics. The car displays "action required shift to park" even though it is already in park with the red P lit up. You cannot turn off the vehicle until you repeatedly start the vehicle, place it in drive then back to park. Eventually it will work correctly. Vehicle will not lock when this happens. This now happens every time I try to turn off the vehicle. I am just out of warranty and dealership says I need to replace the entire steering column as the recommended fix from manufacturer did not work. All of which are out of pocket expenses despite this being a well known issue. Also, vehicle will randomly have a long delay before the vehicle shifts in gear. You shift to D and hit the gas and the engine revs like it is in neutral and eventually it will finally start to go. This delay with engine revving also happens randomly when at a stop and accelerating through intersections and I have had a few near misses of almost being hit because of this! this second issue only seems to happen when going from a stop.

I was stopped at an intersection and the transmission did not allow the vehicle to move forward, it appeared to disengage even though the shifter and dash icon were set in "drive" mode. There is also an alarm sounding when I shut the vehicle motor off and the dash screen reads "shift to park". I found that I need to restart the vehicle and shift out and back in to "park" in order for this alarm to shut off. It appears there is a bad connection between the computer and the transmission or visa versa. GM has already issued several tsbs related to this vehicle as you might be aware.

Started getting a "shift to park" message when trying to shut off the vehicle, even tough the gear shifter showed being in park. When this occurred, the motor would turn off, but the electronics in the car would remain on. Keep in mind that this vehicle uses a smart key with push button ignition and door locks. If the battery goes dead, you have to break into the vehicle. A quick google search showed this to be a common problem in the Traverse. The shop foreman at the local dealership confirmed this to be a common issue. The gear shifter (also electric) had failed and had to be replaced by Chevrolet.

2018 Chevy Traverse when decelerating around speeds under 35mph city driving the vehicle will randomly rev up and the RPM will go up to 4000 or 5000 RPM, this also happens while braking. Sometimes the car will jerk forward as if it was going to accelerate and other times it just stays at a high RPM for 5 seconds or less until I either come to a complete stop or try to accelerate and it does not respond. The engine sounds like it is in neutral and the accelerator is being held down. It also does not respond to the gas pedal when it is reving like this, and if I try to accelerate the car will eventually kick into gear and lunge forward. Took it to the dealer withing the first few months of owning it and they could not replicate the issue and said the computer did not return any issue. This problem comes and goes since I bought the car brand new in 2018 and concerns me, because it feels as if the car is accelerating on its own and may cause me to crash.
