paint is peeling paint is peeling

I noticed the paint problem last fall or early winter. I immediately became concerned because I had the same problem with a Plymouth in 1992. The paint was peeling off the car just like my Trax is now. But not only was my Plymouth peeling, all manufacturers were experiencing major paint peeling issues at the same time. Having experience the paint problem 30 years ago, the Trax brought back all the previous nightmares.

Chrysler would not fix the problem then, and GM is not willing to fix it now despite the fact the problem is from a product failure not from environment, corrosion, or road hazard/accident. Whether I am dealing with Chrysler from 30 years ago or GM today, it's like Deja Vu all over again!

The guys at the Chevy dealer body shop said, "Nope, too late, can't do anything for you." The service manager took pictures for regional GM. (I'm sure he sent them, "8x10 color glossies with circles and arrows a a full paragraph description on the back!") Needless to say they were not impressed at regional HQ, although the said they would give me a $2,500 "loyalty discount" toward a new car! I'm retired, dammit; I don't want a new car or payment, just use the loyalty discount and paint my car! From what they said, $2,500 would just about cover it.

paint is peeling paint is peeling

I purchased a 2015 Chevy Trax from CarMax last June. As of a few months ago the paint is peeling off the hood and now the paint is chipping on the A-pillar near the windshield from the inside out.

I made an appt with a body shop to get an estimate to repaint the vehicle and was advised by the owner to inquire about any recalls. I started an online search and came across a website Cargurus.com and seen multiple complaints regarding the same issue that I am enduring. I decided to reach out to GMC to get some assistance and was told the vehicle was out of warranty etc., after I stated that I came across multiple complaints concerning the situation. The Service Advisor Rep set an appointment at a Chevrolet Dealership. On 04/08/23 at 9:45 am I arrived at the Dealership and was turned away due to lack of manpower and it being a weekend.

I reached back out to GMC in reference to not being assisted this is problematic and needs to be settled. The Service Advisor contacted me the following Tuesday and I explained the situation another appointment is set for 04/19/23 at 7:00am.

The raw material is exposed and rust compromising the vehicle is a critical matter. The vehicle is out of basic warranty and GMC doesn’t want to take accountability for this manufacturing defect. The vehicle is a 2015 and has a little over 67,771 on the odometer and the paint peeling is not a result of wear and tear. Negligence from GMC of this matter is very bothersome as well the prospective financial responsibility. It’s a hurdle to have my vehicle being serviced for a unspecified time and not being offered a loaner vehicle and or a remedy. I work full-time and attend classes twice a week this is my primary transportation.

paint is peeling paint is peeling

My 2015 Chevrolet Trax (blue in color) started peeling 4 months after buying it used. It had less than 67,000 miles at the time. Both sides of the back hatch, by the taillight and on the side panel, and both sides if the hood are all peeling BAD! A law firm that's handling the truck paint lawsuit said if the get enough calls it might be brought to the judge!

paint is peeling paint is peeling paint is peeling

I wrote a long post earlier and when I tried to post it, there was an error and I lost it all... so to summarize:

I notice my paint bubbling up and peeling off in November 2021. I contacted GM and they told me to take it to my dealership. I took it to my dealership and they started the complaint process, took pictures, and sent me to get quotes for repainting the back hatch and the whole car.

Later, I was told nothing would be done. The paint/body warranty had expired and there was nothing they could do. Someone at the dealership said it looked like it had been in an accident and repainted. I told them I was not told when I bought it about it being in an accident and I have never had an accident in it. The car had less than 7000 miles when I bought it.

I have been on another forum since November 2021 and there are multiple Trax owners with the same issue, all are 2015/2016 Chevy Trax that are bright blue. Paint bubbling up and peeling in the same place mine is peeling (under the back window) and some are on the hood and other places.

The Maher Law Firm is involved in a class action lawsuit against GM for the paint issues but the Chevy Trax has not yet been included.

Please call Deana at 407-839-0866 to have your contact information added if you are having this issue with your Chevy Trax so we might be included in the class action.
