Auto sliding door on my 2006 Chevy Uplander will open when driving while my kids are sitting by the door on the highway, will not close, open when car is off when ever parked.

The motor to the rear latch on the driver side sliding door does not appear strong enough to pull in, bolt shut and lock the hasp over the rear staple. Door requires an external "hip check" or strong push on the rear of the door to hear a "click" that confirms that the door is locked shut. Without this action, the door may repeatedly reopen, up to 20-30 attempts, each time emitting an alarm that makes the vehicle unable to drive. This issue was first raised to the dealer within the first year of purchase, has been repeatedly raised to the dealer, up to a half dozen times over the course of the last two years, and was raised to the manufacturer within the past year. Each submission results in the dealer not being able to reproduce the phenomena or fix the problem. The door safety alarm is imperfect as there have been many times the door closes, the alarm is not activated, but the rear of the door appears closed. Later however, after some driving, the rear of the door appears slightly ajar, possibly due to the normal jostling experienced during driving. The unsecured door is often first detected when the driver hears street traffic while driving. This sound is similar to the sound coming from a slightly open window. If not noticed during driving, the slight opening of the rear portion of the sliding door is also visually noticeable by looking at the door from the rear of the van.

Our 2006 Chevy Uplander's side automatic doors open on their own as you are driving down the road. In addition, the doors will not close all of the way. We have taken the vehicle to a Chevy dealer around 10 times to correct the problem and the correction will last for a few days only. Not sure what they have done to try and correct the problem but it has not worked yet. I have four young children that ride in the vehicle and I am very concerned with this problem. Not a lot of fun to be traveling down the road at 70 mph and have the alarms start going off while the door is opening up. We have been having this problem for the last year.

Purchased a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander lt in August 2006. Currently have 45,000 miles and is out of warranty. Since it was purchased, we have had two recurring problems. 1)interior and exterior lights "flicker" at night to the degree that it is a driving distraction and appear to represent the driver flashing their lights. This was taken to the dealer multiple times, and only once under warranty was a part replaced which did not resolve the problem. Now dealer continues to state that they cannot replicate the problem. 2)automatic sliding doors will not open or stay closed. This is a safety hazard as they also will no longer close completely. We have taken to the dealer numerous times and it is apparent that they no longer know what to do. We have replaced several parts trying to resolve the problem. Their last resolution was to turn off the automatic door feature. The problems are identical on both doors. Several times we have been away from home and doors would not close and we could not manually close them. We asked dealer to contact GM for assistance with this issue and they advised that there is nothing they can do.

I have a 2006 Chevy Uplander, almost from the beginning I have had problems with the automatic doors. I took it back to the dealership I purchased it a couple of times and they would "do all they could" by cleaning the track and lubricating - then cleaning the sensors. This was always a temporary fix. The doors would close the majority of the way then open back and begin beeping. I tried turning the automatic doors off - still happened. Then I started noticing on my passenger side that when the door closed the motor would run and you could hear the cable grinding. And about two weeks ago, don't know it the cable got off track, but when I opened the door it would open all the way and the cable would just hang out. Well, today my 2006 Uplander caught on fire while I was at my grandmother's house, the fire department came and after their investigation led to believe the fire started in the passenger side in the area where the motor to my door was. Actually it was very clear that is where it happened, that was the area of the car most damaged.

I purchased a 2006 Chevy Uplander in 12/06 with 20,543 miles on it. I began having problems with the steering about 3,000 miles after purchasing it. It was difficult to steer to the left and there was a grinding noise as I turned. The dealership replaced the steering column. I am having problems again with the steering, and it shakes and makes noise when I pull into parking lots. At about 30,000 miles, the rear sliding doors began to open on their own. When I put the van into reverse and begin to back out of the driveway, the doors sometimes will open. Parked in the driveway and parking lots with no one in the vehicle, the driver's rear door has opened. After I close the doors, they will immediately open, although no buttons have been pushed. Now, at 43,000 miles, the driver's rear sliding door will not close. I pushed the button inside the door as I always have to close it, as well as the overhead button, and the door would not close. Each time I pushed the button, the already open door pulled back as if still trying to open the door. When I tried to manually pull the door closed, it would not close. After 5 minutes of work, I finally got the door closed. The next day, 9/27/08, I experienced the same thing, and on this day as well, a chiming sound rang the entire trip. There is one sound for driving and a different sound for waiting at red lights. The loud ringing never stopped. When I called the dealership, they told me I was no longer under warranty, and will have to pay to have it fixed. I also discovered at 35,000 miles that my tires have worn unevenly on the outside edges of all 4 tires and need to be replaced. Also, the sway bar is in need of repair. I have children ages 2 and 4. I am concerned for their safety.

I am still having problems with the steering shaft, power steering rack and the automatic sliding doors. The steering is stiff and there is a rubbing noise in the steering column. This has been attempted to be fixed 4 times now. The steering rack had been replaced twice, the power steering gear, the front sway bar links, and the I-shaft have been replaced. The problem still exists. The automatic sliding doors will not close properly and seem to reopen when closing. This had been attempted to be fixed 5 times. The PSD assembly and rear guild roller, door position, relearn, lube and adjust was performed, new contact plates were installed. The problem still exists.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander. The rear driver side sliding door opened by itself while driving 25 mph. The contact had to manually pull the door shut. On a different occasion, while the vehicle was parked and the key was removed from the ignition, the rear driver's side sliding door would open and close by itself. A few times, even when the door was closed, the vehicle would chime, which indicated that the door was open. The vehicle has been to the dealer 4 or 5 times, but they could not duplicate the failure or replace the defect. The contact travels with a toddler in the backseat and is concerned of the safety risk involved if the failures are not repaired. The failure mileage was 6,000 and current mileage was 50,000.
