Removal of 2nd row seats on Chevrolet Uplander causes airbag light to stay on. Need permission from NHTSA to allow Chevrolet to deactivate 2nd row seat alarm.

Chevrolet Uplander places the back seat passenger air bags in the seat. Because it is in the seat, there is no armrest provided for the passenger. All passengers that I have had in the back seat have "made" an armrest to be more comfortable, but thereby blocking the function of the airbag. This safety feature of the car will not function properly in a collision, due to passenger desire to be comfortable. This is a very poor design and should be corrected prior to any injuries.
