Chevy Volt's defective HM1 module that failed and needs to be replaced after 2 years on 2017 Volt not covered by original owners warranty 3 yrs or 36 k miles. Vehicle warranty expired with 42 k miles in 2 years. Replacement coat is $600+ and installation cost $660. Total $1,320. Safety issues as this is the main module to control all other modules as back up camera, GPS, electrical and charging settings in addition to many other display functions. Part should not fail as this is a major electrical component. It is not an air, oil nor fuel filter.
It controls the drivers display panel. Screen is total dead.
Recall should be issued as a safety problem as the rear of the vehicle too high to view while backing and is a blind spot. Rear camera is the only way with out exiting car to view what is behind.
