About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Heater core plugs from the dexcool braking down, then finally starts to leak causing lack of heat, eventually fogging the windows so you can't see causing multiple safety hazards. Common problem from what I see on line! you don't realize in summer when you buy the car till you go to use it in the spring and it's not covered under warranty!

A follow up to add on to my initial complaint. I have a screenshot showing how dangerous this issue can become if not resolved. My wipers and horn are a safety concern since they aren't working due to a defective total integrated power module. Please advise before another Chrysler owner has the same problem and could possible harm themselves in a crash or others.
- San Marcos, TX, USA
My wipers have started to not exactly stop working but that stop then start up again when you try to turn them on as if they are glitching. Then my horn stopped working so I went to get my car inspected. The total integrated power distribution module was not working apparently, a $1300 fix. This car has been a pain. Have replaced part after part. Have had 3 recalls and truly believe this should be a recall due to it being such a dumb thing. Even the mechanic was like this is the most expensive fix for a horn that I've ever seen!!

Heater core clogged with gelled coolant, reducing ability to defrost /melt ice from windshield in freezing rain at all speeds. Online research shows gelled coolant affects many Chrysler cars, causing no heat, esp. On passenger side, no ability to melt ice, clogged coolant system, clogged T-stat (summer 2019) clogged oil intercooler (11/14/19). This is the second time that cooling system had to be flushed since purchasing car on 8/4/18. Suspect specified hoat coolant causing problems in all Chrysler vehicles including avenger, charger (per service tech), pickups.

The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that the defroster was not operable and hot air blew from the vents. The vehicle was taken to cobleskill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (2444 state route 7, cobleskill, NY 12043, (518) 234-4000) where it was diagnosed that the heater core needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 152,000. Consumer stated "hot air blew from the vents" not what she said. F manufacturer is aware of the failure. Consumer calle and stated that I was getting heat on the drivers and not the passenger side. Thus causing the passenger side not able to defrost properly as well as causing visual issue.

Clogged heater core on passenger side vents, all floor vents, and now also affecting driver's side. Defroster does not work properly on either side. Only blowing cold "air conditioning" temperature air. This occurred slowly over time but we noticed it the first time while traveling down the highway at 75mph in sub zero temperatures for 13 hours - the issue has progressed over the 13 hour trip and is completely clogged now. Took to an auto shop once at destination but they cannot flush the system because of the poor heater core design that won't allow for the fluid to flow through the dual system.

While driving home from dinner my husbands heat stopped working on the passenger side of the vehicle. Ohio winters a very cold. Defrost on the drivers side was working bust the passenger side was not. Within minutes of driving the passenger side of the windshield frosted over making it impossible go see. It was unbearable being in the vehicle it was so cold. We have 2 small children and with a wind chill in the negative digits there is risk for frost bite. They are my biggest concern however what would normally be a 35 minute drive turned into over an hour becaise of poor visibility. How is this not a recall yet. Not being able to see is dangerous and being in a freezing car for over an hour is dangerous.

The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler 200. When the contact entered the vehicle and attempted to activate the defroster, the vehicle blew out cold air on the front passenger side. The contact took the vehicle to hendrix Jeep Chrysler (543 mcphearson church rd, fayetteville, North Carolina 28303) where the radiator was flushed, but the issue was not resolved. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.
- Fayetteville, NC, USA
Heat on passenger side goes out due to manufacturer coolant. Causes the windshield not to defrost on the passenger side in cold months which makes visibility during driving impossible.
- Cincinnati, OH, USA
The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that the air conditioner, heater, and defrost failed to produce air without warning. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 62,000.

We left Canada to go on a vacation to southern California, the trip was 3200 kilometres. All of a sudden the wipers went up about 6 inches and stopped without being on. Later did it again. A few more times. We then tried to turn them on and it went half way and stopped. After that it did all kinds of weird thinks from turning on when the switch was off. This problem caused us to have to stop several times during our trip due to raining and snowing. The last day when we finally arrived to palm springs, when I shut the vehicle off, the wipers were on at full speed. I had to disconnect the battery to stop it. I then went on the internet and did some research. Thank goodness for people posting their problems on the internet, I was able to diagnose the problem to the tipm. It appears to be a recurring problem with Chrysler tipm's. and of course this is not a warranty item as the warranty had just expired in June. Totally disappointed with Chrysler's warranty and recall of their tipm's. from what I have read about their tipm problems, it has serious potential for injury. It can quit totally all of a sudden shutting down all power and stopping the vehicle on a busy highway.

"tamara recall" when I'm driving, whether it's hot outside or rainy, my wiper blades would come on for no apparent reason, and stay on for about a min. When I'm also driving, it sounds like there is water running through my car. Once again, even on sunny days I still hear water. I've taken it to the dealership, and expressed my concerns, but I was told that nothing was wrong. It happens often, so there is no specific date. It's been going on for awhile. I totally disagree !

One morning, while driving, I discovered that the lights were on but the switch was on off. The fog and bright lights would not function. The blinkers did not function. The windshield wipers, nor solvent would function. Took the car to the dealer and they had to reprogram the tipm. No explanation as to why it had to be reprogrammed.

Wipers sometimes do not turn on when I need them to. Highly dangerous, I have pulled over in the ran before because my wipers on a four year old car will not engage. Additionally, wipers will turn on randomly sometimes during the day when I don't want them to. Not as dangerous, but still very annoying. Chrysler tipm issue, the same one as previous issue 18 months ago. Wipers turn on randomly, sometimes won't turn on when needed. Replaced the tipm 18 months ago, and Chrysler refused to pay (started a ticket with their national customer care). Issue has returned completely 100% identically as before. I'm bringing it back to the dealership, and I've reopened the ticket. They said they will "see what they can do"
