200 S CV 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,600 miles

Stopped at drive through bank ATM, car revved unexpectantly - a minute later car stalled while exiting bank. Started right up and off we went. Stopped for lunch, pulled out on the highway and car stalled at first stoplight. Once is a fluke, twice was scary. Pulled up the NAV and tried calling dealership to drop-off right then and there, except the phone number was wrong. (anyone know how to correct this?)

We haven't driven the car since, and have an appointment 5/01. I sure hope we don't get the same runaround as the rest of those with the same "stalling at stops" issues. (I know, but one can hope, eh?)

Update from Jul 22, 2012: Car was at the Dealership for a week - nothing found, no computer errors. Since first complaint here, I've only put on about 1000 miles, because I'm hesitant to drive. On the occasions that I have driven it - I too have noticed a jerking from the transmission, almost like something is slipping and then surges.

Has anyone had their transmission examined yet with/without an answer from Dealer?

I have been dealing with this issue for a few months now. Not only is the car cutting off at stops at random times but the car jerks like there is something wrong with the transmission now. The car has 24,000 miles on it now and there is no reason the car should have so many problems already. Have taken it to the shop and they can't find anything on the computer as to what it is doing. Ahhhhh!!!!

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,000 miles

My 200 began to surge at stop lights. Then it died at stop lights twice. This was still under 1000 miles. I brought it in and was told it was a software update issue. 2 Days after that fix, problem started again. I let it ride for 2 more incidents before bringing it back to the dealer. Because the car showed no computer codes, they were specifically told by the manufacturer NOT TO TOUCH THIS CAR! Do not work on this car because the problem cannot be recreated. I was literally told "Tough Luck on me". Without codes I'm out of luck. I have to live with it. Since then, it has stalled 4 more times and surged 3 times. Any thoughts?

200

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,400 miles

The car has completely shut down while at a stop. This has happened a helf dozen times so far and it is a serious concern. Dealer claims it has heard nothing from Chrysler.

Update from Jun 20, 2012: Had the car to the dealer on June 19, 2012 and they updated the PCM. Went shopping today and the car stalled at a red light. This is no fix and Chrysler states that my complaint is the only one they have heard about which is BS. They want me to bring the car in to possibly replace the Cam Phasors.

Update from Jul 12, 2012: Dealer installed a Co Pilot and the car stalled again however no code was given. The dealer and Chrysler told me no code no fix. Where is NHSTA when you need them? Some one is going to get hurt or killed if this problem is not corrected. These cars should be recalled or replaced as the public is in danger.

Update from Jul 23, 2012: Talked to Chrysler rep and she stated she is turning it over to Chrysler lemon department. Dealer told me not to bring it back to them as they have no fix for this problem of stalling at stops (red lights, stop signs etc) When is something going to be done about this dangerous situation?

Update from Sep 1, 2012: Since Chrysler will not admit that there is a problem and NHSTA is going to let them get away with it I decided to trade the 200 in on a Ford Fusion which cost me over $6,000.00 dollars to get rid of the problem. I will never deal with Chrysler again as they could care less if someone gets hurt or killed. I refuse to drive a car that I am afraid of.

I have had my Chrsler 200 S a little over a month and during rush hour traffic, at a red light the car just shut off. No lights, no bells or whistles nothing. Went to accelerate after the light turned green and nothing. If you are considering buying this vehicle with the 3.6 V6 I would suggest that you don't.

The engine had shut off at red lights or while stopped on several occasions. After the fourth trip to the dealership, I still did not have the problem solved because I never got a check engine light and the computer wasn't reading any codes. This past week my engine came on while in the parking lot, but I took little notice of it and started driving to work. On the way, the car would not accelerate correctly, like something was catching every time I pressed the gas pedal. I immediately went to the dealership. They worked on my car Thursday/Friday and found that my CAM phasors/sensors had failed. They said this was also the probably the reason that the car had been stopping and replaced them. ADVICE FOR ANYONE HAVING ENGINE-SHUTTING-OFF AT RED-LIGHT PROBLEMS: Suggest for the CAM Phasors to be replaced. I have a case with Chrysler and am going to make sure that they know this is what the solution to my problem was. Hopefully it will help everyone else stop from the grief I had to go through. I will keep posted how the progress is after I have had my car back a little longer.

Update from Jul 1, 2012: An update to everyone on my car: I have had no issues since the CAM sensors were replaced. They were replaced in mid-April and it is now July.

I purchased a 200 V6 in December 2011. The car has been in the shop 4 times now for stalling out at a stop light and Chrysler cannot figure out the problem as the system reads ok. This is getting ridiculous! I have filled the necessary paperwork for the lemon law as I do not feel safe in this car! They just called me and apparently test drove the car over night to try and recreate the issue, but of course it did not happen to them! I'm terribly upset over this after spending the money I did...

My wife was driving on the highway following the traffic all happy listening to the music when traffic came to a stop. As people started to move forward again the car would simply not move . the electronics worked but the engine did not want to budge... ON THE HIGHWAY !!!!! Lucky that she has a good computer geek husband the first thing she did was to remove the key from the starter and turn it back on again.

It seems to have worked. I immediatly went on the web and started to search for complaints. I found this web site with a bunch of other people having this issue. I am very nervous for my wife at this time as she has to take the car back home tonight.

This was the FIRST AND LAST time I bought a Chrysler. Is there any class action lawsuit going on ? where can I add my name to it ? how do we start a class action lawsuit ( Canada/US ) ?

...should of stick with Honda...

This is the 4rth time the car has stalled. I have taken it to the dealer each time. The last time it stalled while driving (about 3 weeks ago) the dealer kept it for 2 weeks and tried to work with Chrysler to find the problem. I picked up the car Saturday and they had installed a "co pilot" computer that should record what is going on when the car stalls. The car stalled this morning and I'm taking it in Thursday for them to see what was recorded. Hopefully they will be able to see what the problem is. PLEASE - IF THIS HAS HAPPENED TO YOU, REPORT IT TO CHRYSLER AND SAFECAR.ORG

Update from May 7, 2012: Co-Pilot did not record anything when the car stalled. Another Carcomplaints member emailed me that her dealer replaced the throttle body and the car seemed ok. My dealer talked to hers and then replaced the throttle body in my car. Car has been fine since and hasn't stalled. It's been about 3 weeks.

Had my 2011 200 since August and at least 5 times it stalled at a light. I t would start up right away and no lights come on to indicate it stopped. Had it back and forth to dealer to no avail until they had it for a week and when I was going to pick it up since they couldn't find anything it finally happened to them. Now they think it was something to do with the gas pedal not doing something and they replaced the throttle system. It worked fine for 2 weeks and happened again Mar 17, 2012. I didn't return it yet because I am hoping it was just a fluke. Fingers are crossed.

My car has stalled at least 5 times while I have been stopped at a light. The dealer says they can't fix it because no warnings or dash lights are showing and Chrysler is not showing this problem in its data base. I purchased a 2011 Chrysler 200 S back in October 2011. When I come to a stop it just stalls out, it shuts down!! This has happened about 5 times now. Took it to dealership they said they couldn't duplicate the problem. So what does this mean do I keep driving it until it turns off while I'm driving it on the freeway and I get in a terrible accident!! I feel so uncomfortable driving this car. I don't feel safe at all! I have learned a very expensive lesson don't ever purchase a car without researching it first!! Sites like these make all the difference.

I see I have added to the ongoing list of 200 owners with engine failure. My car was purchased new last year and has started dying when I am stopped at signal lights. It has died several times and has been taken into the local dealership for repair. They say that since there is no code flashing from the computer with what the problem is, there is no solution to my problem. This is unexceptable. What if it dies while I am drying down the road, it could cause a wreck and hurt someone else or myself. Chrysler needs to address this problem immediately.

I have taken my car to Chrysler three times due to the car stalling, dying, and jerking while driving. The first time I was pulling into a parking space driving relatively slow and the car stalled. The steering wheel locked, brake pedal nor gas pedal worked. I had to coast into the space, push it into park and restart the car. It started back up and drove normally after that. I took it in to the dealer; they put me into a rental from Enterprise and gave me my car back the next day stating that they could not duplicate the problem. The second time, I was in the drive thru at McDonalds and the car stalled again. This time it jerked hard as if I had run over a body with the car. I had to push the car into park and restart it. This time I sent the dealer a very nice email and took the car back. They kept the car 17 days and drove it extensively (100 miles) and could not duplicate the problem. I have been in the dealer’s rental for those three weeks. Each time the car stalls, no warning lights etc., so of course they can’t get a code to see what the problem is. I got the car back on Saturday February 25, 2012 and by the time we got it home and went back out in it…….Guess what, the problem started again but worse. The car locked up and then released (like running over a body), and putted, and idled loudly, etc. Needless to say, Chrysler has my car again as of February 27, 2012. They even told me that they updated the car after I got it back this 2nd time, but the paper work states no update was done. The first time I got the car back they told me that everything was up to date. Now I am just waiting to see what the results are going to be this time. I have already contacted my lawyer because this is dangerous. Two of the three times that the problem occurred; my 1 year old was in the backseat of the car. I also didn’t get the best of service at the dealership and now I just want my money back for this very pretty death trap.

My 200's engine just dies on me while I am driving. This is the third time but I have only taken it in twice. The first time it happened I was pulling my car into the garage and it just died. Did not really know what happened so I just thought I would take it out the next day to see if it would happen again and it did not, so I thought it was just a fluke. The next month, I was coming down a low grade hill going about 20-25 mph and it just died on me. I was able to drift into a parking lot and then it just powered back up. It is only down for about a minute or so. Next time it happened was just a few days ago and I was at a light waiting to turn and it just died on me again. Of course the stress of the lady freaking out at me because I am not moving did not help but the car ended powering back up and I was on my way. I have taken the car in twice and all they do is hook it up to the computer and if the computer does not tell them how to fix it then you are getting your car back without it being fixed. The guy today told me that it would be like finding a needle in a hay stack. Well I say start digging! Nothing aggravates me more than if the computer can't tell them then they will not do anything to even try to fix it. There are so many things that the computer will not detect so you would think they would do a process of elimination. I think that would require them to do more work than they are willing to do. So frustrating to say the least!

I brought this car Sept, 2011. It had to get a wireless module replaced in Oct. 2011. I called and complained to dealership about my car choking. I was asked to bring it in to duplicate the situation, but they wouldn't keep the car nor give me a rental. They sent me on a drive with a service tech and of course it didn't happened while he was in car. On Sun. 1/29 it cut off while I was at a busy intersection at a stop light. On Tues, 1/31 it cut off when my son dropped me at work. I took it to dealership on Wed. 2/1 they did diagnostic testing and couldn't find anything wrong. The tech told me it has to 'get worst' before he could fix it - wwhhhaaattt!!! So the car has to cut off on me everyday, all day!!! I could be on the highway! My son could be driving and be involved in an accident. We were lucky that we were in a stopped situation and had to put car in park and restart the car. I am very scared about driving. I think I will endure the loss of money and get another car!!!!
