This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Chrysler dealer.
Transmission surges when backing up a hill. Causes car to jolt violently. When switching from reverse into drive an severe jolt occurs and an be heard audibly as well. When trying to pass the transmission stays in a higher gear instead of dropping to a lower gear. Transmission also feels like it it slipping at times. This really pisses me off that these manufacturers continue to reap dollar after dollar while I lose my ass. The vehicle has lost considerable worth and has put me upside down considerably! With no re-course but to bitch at some one high up in a luxurious corner office focusing on nothing more than having his thousand dollars shoes spit shined!

When slowing down, gears jar. This doesn't happen all the time but when it does it gets your attention. Dealer says it is normal.

We have taken our car back to the dealer as it jolts in and out of gear. I have contacted Chrysler, and they did NOTHING at all. Never even sent anyone out to look at the vehicle. The dealers have said they feel it once but nothing shows up on the computer as being wrong. If this is how Chrysler and Genesee Valley Dodge treat a customer than they should be ashamed of themselves. Genesee Valley, Avon, NY has told me not to bring this vehicle back to them (very nice, right....got my $$$ and that was all they wrote) Service mgr is very rude!

I bought the vehicle new & during the past 11 months it has been in the service department for a total of 8 weeks. Main problem at first was the clunking when shifting from neutral to reverse or drive. Then it started clunking when it downshifted in traffic. It continues & they did one computer update, but it only helped for a few weeks. When I told them I wasn't happy & wanted to see what they could do about trading vehicles, I was told they could trade for another 2011, but for a $4000 difference. I told them that was not good enough. I'm getting ready to take it back in again this week & hopefully something will get done, if not, I will talk to a regional representative for Chrysler.

Lemon! You would think a new car would shift smoothly. Dealer said they adjusted factory settings, still occurs on a regular basis.

Had the car 2 months, started dying everytime I would stop/make u turn, Chrysler has a case started and nothing since December has been done. Car is now stalling, when I hit 30mph it jolts, I was told this was the new transmission style. Car has been taken in twice for new tire sensors(light came on), 4 times for the stalling, 2 times for an air leak in the back windows, and now I have an air bag light that came on and taking it back this week. Car smells like its burning, not the mention this is scary because its locked me in it and I couldn't get out! Witnesses were shocked and they couldn't it tookk 15 minutes to get the door open, after repeatly turning car off and on, it finally let me out.
Ready to let the car burn without me in it!

I had a flash update on the computer system which they said should fix the 'clunking' sound when the car downshifts. It improved it somewhat, but is still annoying in that I feel it must be hurting the trans. as well as not making for a smooth ride.
I have been told repeatedly that this is a great engine and it isn't hurting anything!
How can that be?

This car was great, until I got about 5,000 miles on it. It surges and jolts all the time. Of course, the dealership claims they can not duplicate this problem. One dealership only duplicated it once, and stated that was not enough to fix the problem. It has caused someone to almost rear end me that is how bad it is. I have gotten whip lash once from this. Its not smooth at all. I am contacting a lawyer since Chrysler is not willing to attempt to fix this problem. I have had multiple people feel my car doing this. I am about to have a baby and do not feel the least bit safe with her being in the car as an infant with the car doing this! My friend who has the same car as I do is experiencing the same issue. She took it in and the Chrysler dealership told her exactly what they told me, that they could not duplicate the issue. Therefore, they can not fix it. A brand new car should not be jolting as bad as my car does. I am done with Chrysler!

this stupid car, it made a clunk sound in the transmission when shifting from park to drive, after stopping for fuel ( had driven 600 kms apx without stopping beforehand)
also, when in drive, it sounded like a jet engine whirring!

I bought a 2011 Chrysler 200 S last October. My problems started soon after when I put car into gear from reverse to drive it makes a terrible jolt. This happens maybe 3 times a day at least. Took it to the dealership and of course they said the same thing I've been reading on this site they can't duplicate the problem or it shows no default on their diagnostic system. I've taken it in more than four times for this problem and I get the same response from them. So very disappointed with this car!! Not to mention so unsafe!! I will be contacting a Lemon Law Lawyer.

my husband and i both have 200's. his is a 4 cyl. mine is a v6. at around 2000 miles his car started jolting when it was shifting into different gears. we took it to the dealer at 2200 miles. they said that the tire size was wrong in the computer and that was causing the jolting. it calmed down for a while... then started to get worse again. this time we took it to the dealer we bought it from (the first dealer had "the best transmission specialist in California"). they said there was nothing wrong with the car. that this is normal "new type of transmission". it got a lot worse. my husband actually got whip lash from one of the worst jolts it has ever done. so we took it back to the the first dealer that had "the best transmission specialist in California". they then said that the car left the manufacturing plant with low transmission fluid and that was the cause. guess what it started back the day after we got it back from the dealer. so we contacted a lemon law attorney. he said to take it back one more time. again nothing wrong with the car (still jolting). there would be no need for lemon law attorneys if the manufacture would own up to the problem and fix it right the 1st time...not wait till the warranty to end. and my in-laws are having the same issue with their 2011 dodge caravan. this is the last time we will ever buy an "American made car". they have no idea who they are dealing with!

It seems the transmission gets confused at high speeds (60mph). Car starts to buck as the transmission shifts up and down trying to find the right gear. Car bucks and feels like someone is hitting you from the rear. Very scary to drive on the highway with this car. When it happened the first time I was startled and almost caused me to lose control.
