Bad engine tick. Removed valve covers. Right intake camshaft had a lobe over cylinder 3 chewed up causing metal flakes in the motor. A rocker arm with a flat spot on the cylindrical bearing was the cause. Replaced both intake camshafts along with all 24 lifters and rocker arms. For good measure, also replaced the other 3 of 4 time chains along with chain guides. Changed oil and filter every 1000 miles until metal flakes disappeared; which thankfully did and were no longer noticable after the 4th oil change every 1000 miles.

Found the Chrysler 3.6 v6 has an issue with valve bearings that wear out the cams after 100k miles (after warranty period is over). I made it to 123,000 miles. Cams being worn out puts metal pieces throughout the engine if the oil filter does not catch them properly. This ended up messing up the engine, along with injectors and ended up requiring an engine replacement rather than replacing cams.

Along with many other issues mainly the ditsy transmission, it was just cheaper to replace car rather than fix.

Chrysler Pentastar engine poorly designed and engineered to fail. Catastrophic engine failure at only 132000 with 3 camshafts being damaged to the point of replacement due to failed roller rockers. Over $1000 in parts alone. Chrysler just finished a Montana lawsuit on the matter. Pentastar engine has no really easy way to disassemble and no good videos on YouTube. Suggest not buying any vehicle with this motor.

The average repair cost at shop is over $3269 for just the left bank alone. Really bad engineering for a V6 front wheel drive car. It also requires special tools for removing camshaft(s) as the roller rockers are UNDER the shaft. Purchase tools ahead of time to have on hand. Also have plenty of time on hand and preferably small hands. Should be covered by warranty but Chrysler has stipulations.

Still having problems with new engine burning through oil but Chrysler wants to continue to test it instead of replacing the car or compensate me for the complete unreliability of the car that I purchased new from them.

The Chrysler 200S is my parents car that they bought in September 2015. It was a brand new car when they drove it off the lot. They use this car mainly for transportation to and from work. My dad is retired, but my mother still works 7 miles from their home. At 500 miles the engine completely shut down on them. Fast forward to 6 weeks later and they got their car back. Fletcher Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep provided them a rental car. On Tuesday, November 14th, 2016. Almost a year to the date of the previous engine problem I get a call from my dad, who is 77 years old stuck on the side of the road needing me to come pick him up. The vehicle was towed by the local dealership. We waited approximately 3 hours to find out nothing. They would not even offer a rental or loaner car because they have to have 24 hours to check the car out first. Ridiculous!!!! This is their only car and the 3rd car they bought from them and you can't give them a rental or loaner??? What if they had no family that lived close by? So, I took my dad home and called the Chrysler headquarters. They were wonderful. They called and got my parents a loaner car that same evening. Fast forward to Friday and guess what folks??? The 2nd engine is blown up again!!! So, the 1st original engine went out at 500 miles, this 2nd one lasted 1300 miles!!! Now, they're putting engine number 3 at 1800 miles. And guess what? I've contacted a lawyer. DO NOT buy a Chrysler 200S. It's a piece of crap!!!! I was told that the big wigs will probably come down to look at everything again and make a decision on replacing the car. Either way...my parents don't want the car back and I have a lawyer. If it doesn't go the way we want it to go I will definitely move forward with a lawsuit!!! Wish us luck! Stay far, far, away from these cars!!!

I was driving on the highway, going approximately 75-80mph, when I began to smell smoke--a moment later, the engine dies. After finally coming to a complete stop on the side of the highway, I noticed a large amount of smoke venting from the hood.

I had the car towed to a Chrysler dealership and thought I would ask for a rental since the car was still new, but was told they no longer offer rentals. About four days later I called the dealership, curious if they were able to figure out what happened. The gentlemen over the phone called it a "catastrophic engine failure" and I would have to contact Chrysler directly to request a rental. The dealership was given an authorization code and a few hours later I was finally in a rental.

They replaced the failed engine with a completely new engine and called it a manufacture defect. The car runs well now, but the engine does sound a little rough, the car vibrates a little, and the entire car now smells like a charred engine--hoping the smell will eventually dissipate.

All in all, I would not recommend any of the new Chrysler models until they have resolved this issue.
