I've had this care for 3 1/2 years and have loved it. This is the first winter this has happened. If its under 40* F and I start it and immediately start driving, it will die upon deceleration or acceleration within a few hundred feet. When it dies, no check engine light or anything comes on. The battery light illuminates and a message on the dash reads "shift into park."

The power steering completely stops too, making it very hard to pull out of traffic. I shift into park, then press the start button. It sounds like it is trying to start. After about 15-30 seconds it starts. If I allow the car to warm up for at least 5 minutes before driving, it doesn't stall.

The first signs of trouble were when I was backing out of a parking space and the car alarm started going off and would not stop. Car would not move. Eventually got it going and got it home. About 3 months later I was sitting in traffic at an intersection and the car just stalled. Shifter would move but didn’t change gears. Messages “service transmission and service parking brake” and “engage parking brake so car does not roll” came on the dash screen. Anti-skid, check engine, and parking brake indicators came on. Eventually got the car started and got it home, all indicators except the check engine light went off on the dash.. it did eventually go off.

Didn’t have any more trouble for a couple of weeks, even drove the car from OKC to Houston and back with no issues. A couple of weeks later, as I was backing out of the driveway to go to work it died again. All the same messages and indicators came on. Took a few minutes and it finally started again. I drove it to work and had to stop at the grocery store on the way home. Died again in the middle of the street and again took a few minutes but got it home.

At this point we called dealership and there was a recall for a wiring harness that we had fixed. While it was in at the dealership we get a call from the service manager telling us that the car had no oil in it. They were going to do a bore scope and see if they could determine why. There were no indications that the car was low on oil and no signs that it was leaking or burning oil. They replaced the motor and did all of the recalls and sent it back to us. We did find out that there was a front wheel bearing that needed replaced.. we could do it for much cheaper than the $450 they wanted to fix it. Changed the wheel bearing and speed sensor, took it out for a test drive and the car died and all of the same indicators came on as well as the ABS this time.

Took it back to the dealership and they had it for nearly 2 weeks.. decided it was an electrical issue replaced something in the dash for a grand total of $826 out of pocket. Have had the car back for 2 days… after reading this forum we are waiting to see when it might happen again.

I want to add that my car only has 68,000 miles but while it was in the dealership service department the service manager told us that they have had 2 more vehicles come in with the exact same problems.. both of them Jeep Renegades (they have the same engine as the Chrysler 200) and one of them only had 20,000 miles on it.

I've had this problem since I got this vehicle. It has been in their shop for maintenance more than 5 times over the course of 18 months. Each time they state that they have fixed the issue and after a few days the exact same problem resurfaces. Upon pressing the gas the car stalls and then it just jerks and takes off rapidly after a few seconds. Also at times when I'm braking the car accelerates with the same jerking.

I purchased this 2015 Chrysler 200c because it was a Chrysler Certified used vehicle. Prior to my second payment being due it revved up at a stop light. I put it in park and shut if off to keep from hitting the car in front of me. I took it to the dealership the next day I was told it was fixed. The next day when I got on the highway at 60 mph it shut off. I coasted to a shoulder, restarted it and drove to the dealer. It has been there since then. I contacted Chrysler and was given a rental for 28 days and no additional help. After the 28 days I took the rental back and was left with nothing safe to drive. The car still sits at the dealer. I reviewed the service history to see a long time history of so called updates all pertaining to shift modules, transmission and braking. The dealer says updates do not mean there was a problem. I am not willing to put loved ones or others on the road for an obvious safety issue. Chrysler never contacted me with any help other than to extend a rental. I filed with NCDS and have a hearing scheduled. We will see if Chrysler protects consumers.

  • Automatic transmission

Purchased the vehicle in Feb. even months later I go to start t up to take my daughter to school it stalls out and wouldn't start. After playing with the brakes and the engine button I finally got it to start up. Drove it a whole 5 seconds and it stalled out with cars behind me and shut off. Luckily it happened in my complex and my neighbors weren't speeding or we would have collided. I contacted Chrysler customer service the rep Chris told me I had to pay to have my car towed to a close by dealership and have it diagnosed. I informed Chris we would be on the phone ALL DAY until he comes up with a better solution. He left me on hold for about 10-15 mins thinking I would hang up, but I stayed on there until he came up with a better solution. He started apologizing saying they couldn't do anything. So I contacted Justin Gibson Automotive Supercenter where purchased the car and left a message for someone to contact me about the car. I then contacted Chrysler customer service again to see if I could get some results into having this car fixed. The customer service rep informed me that they COULD have my car towed in and checked out, because it sounds like my car has a recall on it. They had it towed into Big O' Dodge and they put me in a rental and paid for it. I was in school when I received a call from Justin Gibson Automotive Supercenter. The guy I had the pleasure of speaking with was named Don and let's just say Don was a complete douche!! Don told me flat out that their job at the dealership was to get the car started and get them off the lot! I need to take responsibility for the car! I informed him I was not satisfied with his customer service and he hung up on me!! I left school and went straight to the dealership! Don would not come out the office to have a conversation with me instead he sent another manager to talk to me. The managers name was Drew. Drew took my statement and then offered me a lousy car wash whenever I get my car fixed!! Big O' Dodge contacted me the next day and said my car did have a recall on it so they didn't have to put it on the machine to diagnose and my car was ready to be picked up Wednesday. I went and picked it up it ran fine for a couple days.

engine stalls/dies while driving

complete engine & electrical failure while driving

Since I bought the car, I have experienced a sputtering or hesitation while at a stop and trying to accelerate. There is a slight hesitation and then the car zooms forward. Not sure if it is related to what happened on July 9, but the car started as usual with no problems. Got about 4 miles and was stopped at a light waiting to turn left to get on the US 51 near downtown Phoenix during rush hour. The car accelerated and got about 100 feet and the there was a complete failure of the engine. It just shut off with no warning. While some of the electrical still worked, the car would not restart. It was also impossible to get the gear into neutral so unable to push the car out from the middle of a six lane intersection. This could have been a catastrophic incident because it was blocking several crisscrossing lanes of traffic. I cannot believe no one smashed into me from different directions.

The car was towed to AirPark Dodge in Scottsdale where the next day they reported the cause was a bad battery. Really? The car started with no problem and was moving when the engine just shut down and you're going to tell me it was a bad battery?

See subsequent reports for what happened next.....this is an ongoing saga with repeat instances and the mechanics cannot figure out why the car continues to just shut down while in drive. This car is a death trap. The rep at Enterprise car rental told me he has customers complaining all of the time of the sputtering and hesitation while trying to accelerate from a stop.

200C 2.4L

  • 11,660 miles

This is the third incident in as many as seven days involving the complete engine and electrical failure.

After first claiming it was a bad battery and then claiming it was a bad and dirty fuel injector, AirPark Dodge in Scottsdale turned over the car with full confidence that the issue had been identified and solved.

Once again, they bring up the car and left the engine running. This time, I didn't turn the engine off to 'test' whether it would start again and pulled out of the Dodge driveway. I turned onto a very busy thoroughfare during rush hour traffic, got approximately 1/2 mile way, driving about 25 - 30 MPH and again, experienced complete engine and electrical failure with absolutely no warning. The engine just shut off as I was about to enter a busy intersection with cars flying in three lanes of traffic going anywhere from 50 to 60 MPH.

Cars were screeching to a stop and swerving across all lanes to avoid hitting into the back of my car. I was stuck in the middle of the road because it was too dangerous to try to get to the sidewalk. The light finally turned red and I was able to get off the road and it is by sheer luck that no one hit that car.

I called the dealer and they sent four guys in a van who had to push it over 1/2 mile back to the shop, all in extreme danger of being hit by cars on this busy thoroughfare. They still have the car and I am seeking legal assistance to invoke Arizona's Lemon Law. This car goes far beyond just being a LEMON, it is a death trap. From what I have learned on this and other sites, Chrysler has known since 2011 that these 200 models are experience sudden and complete engine failure while being in drive. It happens without warning so beware.

engine & electric failure after new battery

This is the second incident after my initial experience with the complete engine and electrical failure that AirPark Dodge in Scottsdale claimed to be the result of a bad battery.

The day after the car unexpectedly shut off while in drive, AirPark Dodge claimed the cause was a bad battery. While I questioned how a bad battery could have caused the complete shut down of the engine while it was being driven and after having started it with no trouble, they insisted the bad battery was the cause.

They pulled up my car and left it running so the car would be cool when I drove away. I got into the car and as a 'test', I shut off the engine, let it sit for a few seconds and tried to restart it. Sure enough, it would not start. The starter was attempting to turnover, but would not start. The lead mechanic was dumbfounded as he was certain it was the battery that caused the engine failure. They had it another 4 days and finally reported that it was a bad fuel injector that was dirty.

While this made more sense than a bad batter, read the third complaint to find out what happened next.... A lot of people could have been seriously injured or killed because of this death trap of a car.
