I stopped for dinner and came out to leave and the car started but would not shift into gear. I tried repeatedly, but it would not go into gear. Had to call someone to come get me. I went back the next day with a trailer to get it and it started up and went into gear as normal so I drove it home.
However, this problem has repeated itself several more times since. I can't depend on this car to get me home if I go anywhere... most likely I will have to have it towed back home.

The car would not start even by jumping it. Lights up and everything else works but no start. This is a pushbutton start car. I had to have it towed 72 miles back to our home dealer. They replaced the starter.

I stopped at the gas station and shut the engine off to fill up with gas. Got ready to start, and it lights up but not starting. Had to have it towed AGAIN! This time they said it was a burnt wire to the starter.

Got to destination, car locked down, went into I am guessing panic mode. Headlights wouldn't turn off, horn wouldn't stop beeping. All doors locked luckily driver side opened. Chrysler service dept. was closed at the time just to mention. After 15 minutes a smell of burning wire developed, then the smoke. Had to climb through the back seat to use emergency trunk latch to open trunk because trunk was also locked out. Finally got battery disconnected. But damage was done. Now dealer failing to cover damage saying not their problem. Complete meltdown of wiring harness, computer gone as of now. They are still trying to figure it out 10 days later in the shop. This an extremely unsafe condition if driver door wouldn't have opened like the rest of the doors of vehicle someone could get trapped and burn up in the car. Chrysler 300 have no pull tab on their door locks so when you have electrical failures you got serious problems if you are in car and are unable to crawl out through trunk. At the end of the day Chrysler has dropped the ball and are denying any fault or defect of system . I will say again, a car of this caliber only 40,000 miles into it having this kind of meltdown is absurd! Been buying Chryslers for 15 years this is third one . Goodbye Chrysler !!!!!!! End of our business now. Will not be buying anymore of your products or will I ever talk anything but bad about your cars for now on. Which will be high on my priority list!!!

Car will start, but not go into gear. Service transmission message comes on and says "Continue in D. Do not Shift to N, P or turn engine off until you reach a desired location. You may not be able to shift again until serviced" However, it won't go into any gear to even move it. I had it towed to the local dealer. The Chrysler dealer told me NOT to bring it to them anymore because they don't know what to do with it.
So I had it towed to another service center that agreed to look at it. After clearing the codes which he said was "Lost communication" and "Low voltage" codes he said he had charged the battery and it was ready to go. I asked him to check the AC while it was there and when he went to pull it back inside to check the AC it locked him out of gear again. After several attempts he finally got it going and he told me to come get it before it locks out again. I drove it two times and it locked out of gear again. I'm at wits end! HOWEVER, I can assure you I will NEVER own another Chrysler product! I've drove Lincolns and Cadillacs for years and never had any problems like this!
