About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
While traveling at 50-60 mph I had noticed the RPM to be just over 4000. I let my foot off the gas and it remained at just over 4000 RPM and the check engine light had come on. The codes are P0700, P1776. Car just randomly throws itself into second gear or goes into limp mode and stays locked there. For now, once you turn the car off and back on again, you can drive with normal gears. However, once you hit 50-60 mph, the transmission automatically goes into limp mode and stays locked in second gear. All signs point to solenoid pack assembly.

2004 Chrysler 300M. Consumer stated he experienced multiple transmission failures. The consumer stated upon exiting the interstate, the vehicle went into limp mode (locked in 2nd gear) a few second later, the engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that a new valve body assembly was needed. The vehicle was eventually repaired. However, the consumer encountered the problem again when the vehicle suddenly went into limp mode. The consumer went to another dealer and it was determined that the valve body assembly was initially found to be at fault. However, it was further diagnosed to be the solenoid pack (part of the valve body assembly) that was faulty. The new solenoid pack that was installed just 3 days earlier was an obsolete version that had been superseded by an improved design.

: the contact stated while driving 25 mph and approaching a stop sign, the brake was applied however; the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle continued through the intersection and crashed into a truck causing damage to both vehicles. The contact sustained minor injuries and a police report was taken. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who found no problem. Also, intermittently when the gear was shifted into reverse the vehicle continued to go forward. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, who could not duplicate the problem. Further, while driving various speeds, if hands were removed from the steering wheel, the vehicle pulled to the right. The dealer could not identify the problem.
