About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Every time we fill the gas tank... the vehicle will stutter / shake when at idle or die completely at idle like at a stop sign or drive through window. It will restart after about 30 seconds. After it has been driven about 25-40 miles it stops happening. We have paid for total vehicle inspections, we have also paid $1300 to have every single problem a certified Chrysler dealership can find fixed. This did not help the problem at all and the dealership says there is absolutely nothing wrong with the SUV. This is the car our son drives and we are very concerned. We are not in a financial position to replace the vehicle and have now emptied our savings to have the vehicle completely serviced, inspected and repaired.

In June 2016 I began having problems with my vehicle shuts off at a stop sign stop light seems like the rpms goes down and the car shut off with no advance warning I have to start the car two or three times in order for to get it to restart took it to the dealer $100 service fee and they didn't find anything wrong with it I've had the spark plugs changed the spark plug wires change the throttle body assembly change and actually I'm kind of getting afraid to drive in the vehicle because I never know when it's going to shut off and I don't want anyone to run in the back of me.

The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Aspen. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. After restarting the engine, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The contact indicated that the failure would frequently occur when making a sharp turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on multiple occasions, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

My 2007 Chrysler Aspen was in "park" at a gasoline station. The car shifted into reverse while I was filling the tank. I tried to jump in the car as it was rolling and was drug along the cement.the car was eventually stopped when the door hit a cement pole. This resulted in approximately $2200 in damages to the door of the vehicle and quite a few cuts, scrapes and bruises on my body. The car had shifted out of gear several times before (usually while I was in reverse) and had been reported to Chrysler, but because they couldn't get the car to do it while it was in the shop, they refused to fix it. The key also would stick when starting the car leaving it to rev while I tried to get the key out. I was told by the repairman that Chrysler was aware of these issues, but until they found a fix there was nothing they could do. I have read where other Chrysler models were recalled for these same issues, but the Aspen has never been included in the recall. I have since traded in the vehicle for another brand because of these issues.
