Cirrus LX 2.4L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,793 miles

On 03/17/13, My winter Florida car, a 95 Cirrus LX, V6 w/ 37,723 original miles (inherited from mother in 2008) wouldn't start, but turned over strongly. AAA brought it to repair shop. Shop said crank position sensor bad, AND the ECM module was 'fried'. They replaced it and all seemed OK. Then, while driving in town, the transmission abruptly downshifted, scaring the day lights out of us, thinking we were going to be rear-ended. Thankfully we didn't and got to the shoulder and turning the car off. After calming down, started the car and Hallelujah!, it seemed OK! Didn't last a mile and problem was back. This happened several times more as we drove carefully & slowly back home. Back to the shop. They said they would look into this problem but would need to keep the car for a few days. They found the PCM module was now dead. This was replaced and all seemed good again. ....until April 5, 2013. Transmission in stuck in 2nd and transmission, and NOW, the transmission selector lever can freely move in & out of park (and roll), even with the key out of the ignition! Cost of parts and labor, not to mention lack of confidence and safety, is just awful.
