My Dad always took the car to the dealer for the maintenance, oil changes especially, and I specifically remember him telling me how "THEY" considered 1qt/1000 miles as "normal" consumption. He made sure it was changed every 3000 miles, at the dealership. This vehicle was garaged and kept in "mint" shape and every little thing was taken care of ASAP, by the DEALERSHIP SERVICE. Dad's gone, and Mom's a widow.. when I go to see her she always asks me to "check my oil and air in the tires". I do that. November 2006/75,000 miles;problem;overheating. Dealer charges $1264.10 for a water pump, gaskets, thermostat (seems overpriced) and she is told the "motor" is warrantied for 1500 miles when she questions this. It's a warm Spring2007, and the A/C isn't up-to-par so she brings it in for service along with a coupon for an oil change($27). Since she lives alone she waits for the job to be done, although they want her to leave it all day. One hour later she's paid the bill:$129! Turns out the A/C is "shot", estimate:$1200 She wants to "think about it" and drives to the supermarket only 2 miles away. Groceries in the car, ready to get home and... it won't start! A call to AAA brings a tow truck.. they try a jumpstart.. Nope. So the car comes home and I arrive an hour later.(I live 175 miles away)I check the dipstick, it's OK . I get it towed to the dealer and, hoping it's just a starter, i instruct them to "do it". When I ask if they have one in stock they will have to check, and when I offer to get one if need be I am told it would void warranties, they "don't work that way". A phone call:5pm: Your motor is seized, you need a new motor". Next day's visit to the srvice dept;they don't know what caused it and to open it up will have to be paid for by me & Mom. (Talk about nickel and dime ya to death) And the "Warranty?":NOT COVERED. The car is in the lot with greasy fingerprints all over the hood but they don't know what seized it.. A$$HOLES! I have contacted an attorney.. we will ask the Owner of the dealership for a reasonable resolution. Chrysler Motors USA informs me that the "Company" doesn't get involved with "workmanship" issues. So... the COMPANY blames the greasemonkeys, and the Dealer/Service dept couldn't care less. Thank you for posting this website.. The internet sites have truly "educated me" with regards to Chrysler Defects. We will have our day in court.. with a jury.. if need be.

On the morning of 10/20/2006, my husband was driving to work in our 1998 Chrysler Concorde. He was in rush hour traffic and the engine started knocking and losing power, the oil light also came on when he stopped. He was able to make it to work and park the car. Only to be told by a certified mechanic that we have "engine failure" and need a new engine. More than likely due to "oil sludge"... whatever that is. We have had the oil changed in this car every 3,000 miles with synthetic oil since purchasing it from my parents in 2001. My parents had purchased the vehicle new and also had the oil changed every 3,000 miles. Our mechanic told us this "oil sludge" and engine failure is a major problem with these cars that have the 2.7L engine.
We can not afford a new engine let alone a rebuilt engine. My husband has no transportation to work now, as we have 5 children 3 of them under 3, and I can't be without a vehicle due to our middle daughter's health problems and 3 weekly doctor appointments. My husband's job is in the city which is a 30 - 45 minute commute. Now my husband is having to take a bus to work and has to add 2 additional hours on to his commute time. Less time with family and a car with 72,000 miles that we can't drive!!! Chrysler's own mechanics admit the defect with the 2.7L engines, why won't the company acknowlege the problem. I'll tell you why...... having to stand up and take responsibility for their defective engine would totally bankrupt them. Not to mention tarnish the "Mercedes-Benz" affilitation.
Everyone that has this problem needs to go to the NHTSA website or place a phone call and file a complaint!! Website: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm Phone: Call the DOT Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 and a NHTSA representative will record your complaint information.
Since hearing this I have researched this and have found thousands of people with the same problem and Chrysler won't do a damn thing about it!!! My parents have been loyal Chrysler owners since their first new car 40 years ago...... I doubt that they will continue to be.
If anyone hears any information about a class action lawsuit please let me know!! I did register at a site: www.LawyersAndSettlements.com .. for all it's worth!

I have to agree with anyone owning this piece of junk( the 2.7L). This first started with a small ticking sound and 2 weeks later out of the blue the bearings seized. My car had all the oil changes on time as per Chrysler's recommendations. I had to have a rebuilt engine put in because the mechanic said it's not worth the $8000 to put in new because these engines are crap and apparently everyone but me knows this. I would never buy another Chrysler, ever !! This is not the only problem, try having your car stall WHILE driving, and having no steering ,due to a bad crank sensor. PIECE OF CRAP AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO OWN UP IF THE WANT TO MAKE A NAME AGAIN!!! Any CANADIAN folk out there trying to pursue legal action, let me know because several times of this car DYING on me while driving has pissed me off enough to seek retribution.
