I had just left church, and got into my car to come home. I put on my seat belt, moved the seat forward, checked the mirrors, and with my foot depressing the brake, took off the emergency brake, and looked over my left shoulder. As I did this, I viewed a white car stopped about two cars length behind me, waiting to exit the parking lot. They waived to me to go ahead. At this point my car was completely stopped. The column shifter was in reverse, and my foot was still on the brake pedal, when all of the sudden my car ( by itself ) went into full acceleration forward, about one and a half car lengths hitting a tree, without my shifting anything on the shifting column. The airbag did not deploy. The impact stirred up a huge amount of dirt and dust in front of my windshield. The tree was the only thing that stopped my car as the motor was still in full acceleration as I reached to turn off the ignition. Many witnesses gathered around my car coming to my door to see if I was hurt. I have been in touch with daimler Chrysler, and they refuse to except liability for what I am sure is a malfunction in this car! the exact same thing happened to my husband with this same car in Sept of 1999, only the car went into full acceleration in reverse.
