This car is an absolute nightmare. Since day one, it has had issues - from needing to replace the oil pan to needing an alignment. I noticed that the car accelerated weirdly, but because it has been a very harsh winter this year, I thought that it was the below-zero temperatures. I was wrong. When I was driving onto the freeway, the car randomly sounded like it was accelerating more than I actually was, and it slowly started to shut off. After the hoopla of towing the car to the shop, I later found out that it needed a new engine, which would be a six thousand dollar repair. Unbelievable, I've only owned the car for 6 months, and I have an issue like this? Stay far away from the 2.7 engine Chrysler Concorde and Dodge Intrepid vehicles. They are the worst, and will drain your wallet. Next time, I am going for a Honda, Toyota, or Nissan. Avoid this mess.

4 days after I had my oil pan gasket changed with the oil light switch my car died on me, the engine stayed on but the car did not go forward or backward. So, I took the car back where I had the oil pan fixed and they said it was nothing that they did, it's the chrysler brand. Of course, I find it too coincidental that it happened after they serviced it. I called a couple of transmission specialists and they literally told me it would be hard to prove they were negligent. I'm grateful I had my car for 11 years (brand new) 135,000 miles. Oh well...

I bought this car for my wife, it was a beautiful and comfortable car. A year after we bought it, I noticed it was chattering near the front of the engine. I pulled the valve covers off, and found a tremendous amount of 'oil sludge'. I cleaned the entire inside of the motor, including taking off the oil pan, valve covers, and timing chain cover. I also replaced the timing chain tensioner at that time. The car ran great for another year, then had catastrophic failure with no warning. Timing chains had come loose, busted up the valves, the timing chain guide broke, the tensioner I installed was ruined also.

So......We now have a very expensive yard ornament. I could not afford to replace the motor, the local dealership will not touch it, and I defaulted on the loan, as I had to replace the car, and could not afford 2 payments. Chrysler is well aware of this problem, and will NOT do anything to rectify the situation. The biggest problem is that this car did not show any problems until 50k-100k miles, so it has generally been the problem of not the first owner, but subsequent owners, people like my wife and I who could not afford to have this happen to. Class action? Who knows, the consumer would get pennies on the dollar, eight years from now. I hate this car, and resent all the problems it has caused me and others. Maybe they should have included this problem in the BAIL-OUT Chrysler received from the US government. Where is our bail-out Mr. President?

Well I guess I'm not alone with my problem of a blown engine after putting only 40,000 miles on my car. I bought the car second had because it had low miles and was very clean, engine and all. Guess that was my first mistake! I bought an after market warranty which will not cover the blown engine cause they are convinced that I let the car overheat and that didn't not happen. So, like the rest of you, I'm stuck with a pc of yard art too!

I would like to know how Chysler can get away with this when the type of engine is so bad. The Intrepid 2001 also has the same engine and same problem. I think there should be a recall on this engine.....and quick! God only knows when I will be able to get another car as I have a yr left to pay on this one!

I received call from my mechanic today telling me that my engine failed and would need to be replaced. the horrible thing is it did not give me any indication it was about to fail. Regularly changed oil every 3000 miles, just replaced oil sending unit for 2nd time in 3 months and no matter how often I took it into shop to fix the oil leaks there were issues. Also had to have 2 coil packs replaced 2 years ago because of oil issues. Granted car had lots of miles on it, but just in Dec. the dealership said car and engine were in great shape and it could go another 100000 miles because of how good it was taken care of. The engine seized on the highway the other night and now they are quoting me 4500 to replace with new engine- which would give me a 3 year 100000 mile warranty. If a replacement engine has that kind of warranty that tells me there is something very wrong with it. Not to mention the dealer said that it is a hard engine to find and I wonder why if everyone is having to have it replaced.

The car was running perfect and then started to get sluggish, engine light came on and pulled over on side of highway, car started to run hot and then turned off car, tried to turn back on and it wouldn't turn over. I only paid 3000 for car from friend of mine who religiously changed oil every 3000 miles too. Most of the miles were highway because of 60 mile drive to work. Which may be why it lasted as long as it did, once within a few miles of work, car started having problems. I don't know if I want to fix or not, but it was going to be my son's first car when he gets license this summer. I'm so very peeved about this and now that I am researching the cost for a new engine and seeing all this information about oil sludge I am livid!

I feel more fortunate then a few of these other folks but i am disappointed in Chrysler as a company. I and my wife purchased a Concorde and at aprox 52000 miles the engine seized with no warning. we replaced the engine under warranty and still had to pay aprox 2300.00 to finish fixing the car. we kept this vehicle believing that there was no way we would need to replace another engine. now we will need to replace another engine at 132000 miles. this is unacceptable. we changed our oil every 3000 miles. i still have the receipts to prove this but Chrysler does not care. they feel i did not maintain my vehicle to the standards required. what a poor excuse for a company. i hope you close your doors and never reopen it would be a greater justice to the public.

Actually just wanted to add praise to AutoBeef and all the valuable (and unhappy) people who just prevented my wife and I from making another costly mistake.

We have just went through what all 2.7 liter Chrysler Concorde owners have or will go through, Engine failure due to sludge buildup.. We were at our local and favorite used car dealer today and checked out a BEAUTIFUL 2000 Durango with all the bells and whistles and of course a 4.7 liter engine..

After the Chrysler 2.7 boondogle we were smart enough to find out if the 4.7 was a good engine or not... Thank You God and the Internet!!! WE WILL NOT make another mistake like that again..In fact I have a 1992 Dodge Dakota now, but I'd bet real money that I trade that sucker off this weekend..

This car was well maintained and low in mileage. No problems we even had an experienced auto mechanic take a look at the car before we purchased it and he advised that the car was a good buy for the price and car maintenance so far. And then without any warning while my wife was on the interstate the engine failed and she had to coast it off the busy highway to the shoulder of the road. It is the shop waiting for repair. Since we only had this auto for 6 months we immediately talked with the dealership to see what they were willing to do about this problem. THey turned us away and refused to help us. SO now we are here, hoping that something will be done about this growing problem..... oil sludge we had no idea this was a problem until now!!!!!

I bought my 2001 Chrysler Concorde in February 2007, at Leskovar Car Sales With 90,000 miles on it. I decided the car warranty was expensive at $2,000 and it only covered the engine. After choosing not to add it to the price of the car at $7,000, it became a nightmare. One week after the car was purchased the engine failed with my infant in the car. My car Has been in shop ever since. The cost of fixing the car is $5,000 dollars.

I'm only 18 years old and it was my first car bought through a loan and it has already screwed me. I'm having no choice but to pay full coverage insurance on a car that doesn't run and and car payments until the car that I still owe $4,500 on it. The dealership was let off the hook and didn't need to pay any of the cost. Leaving me without a reliable car.
