This is a known problem to Chrysler/dodge cars.
The power door lock mech will strip gears eventually and make a loud grinding noise when trying to lock. Imagine revving an impact drill inside a car, THAT's what it sounds and feels like.
My right-rear door developed this problem earlier this year and now it had totally died. Door cannot be open.
Actually, this is a good thing, my car doesn't make as much murderous noises now. (see my other post about the break screams)

Door lock makes an awful scream and it does not open sometimes. When I use my car remote to open or lock the doors or when the automatic door lock, the driver side door makes a scream. This problem is causing a short circuit that killed my battery. Not sure how to fix this problem, anybody has an idea?
