Consumer was at a gasoline station. As he pulled out heard a noise, and lost control. There wasn't any steering. Steering wheel was going around in circle. Dealership was notified, there were no injuries. The loss of control of the vehicle was caused by snapping in half of the bolt that hold the steering rack together. This vehicle had been involved in accident before this customer purchased it.

Both tie rod ends at steering gear box replaced. Failure due to wear of rubber bushings part no. 501825aa. This should be considered a dangerous situation which could lead to accidents, especially at highway speeds. Reported failures believed to be more numerous than Chrysler will admit. Componant failure was the two bolts that secure tie rods to rack and pinion steering sheared off, both at the same length. This happened while backing out of a parking space. In turn, both tie rods, one to each wheel became totally disabled and all steering was lost. Removed the rack and pinion and foind no defects with operation. Replaced with a remanufactured one with new bolts from the dealer. Cause remains undetermined.

Had new tires put on. Noticed that the front tires were wearing out when making a right hand turn. The wheels would whistle, and when coming down a hill and applying brakes, the front wheels shimmied very badly, especially when traveling at 45mph. Contacted the dealer, dealer inspected vehicle, and told consumer that bushings/tie rods and ball joints wore out
