Chrome peeling off the wheels...why pay for chrome wheels when they peel in a few years. Really poor design flaw

Purchased this car used with about 30-35,000 miles. Was in good condition and appeared well maintained but over the first 6-9 months we had four flat tires and multiple low pressure problems and rapid tire wear. Extended warranty did not cover tires/rims and, although this clearly seems to be a manufacturing problem, we could get no relief from Chrysler. We could not even by used rims because we were told that junk yards destroyed them and sold the metal for scrap rather than risk selling a "defective" rim. Would have hoped that Chrysler would be a better corporate citizen than junk dealers. Chrysler didn't manufacture the wheels, they buy them from a supplier, but they should take responsibility. They seem to think that most buyers of this model are less inclined to make an issue of problems than younger consumers. A shameful way to treat the "experienced" consumers of their products. I have owned or leased a number of Chrysler products and I like the PT Cruiser but I doubt I will ever purchase a Chrysler product again. I wonder if that was worth the $200-300 it would have cost them to fix it?

I noticed the chrome starting to peel up a bit this winter. It is peeling from the inside to the outside of the rim. And two of the Chrome caps have fallen off. Have no idea where or when they disappeared. I'm very fussy about my cars and keep them washed all winter long, to keep road salt off of them. I love everything else about this car, and one of the reasons I purchased this one was the attractivness of the chrome rims... I went to a dealer in Meadville, Pa.... they was going to check to see what could be done, have never heard back from them. Went to a dealer in Cortland, Ohio, and all they said could be done was to "sell" me some new or used rims. I feel this is totally wrong due to the fact the car is only 4 years old... I feel that the wheels should be replaced by Chrysler...

I have had repeated air leaks, flats >20 times. I take my car to Tire Discounters & they tell me this problem is frequently reported, an ongoing issue, an employee said he had this problem & finally had to have all 4 rims replaced. I have been told about this issue many times, not just from Tire Discounters but from other service centers. Funny, the dealer never told me about this problem with the rims when I had my car in for service!
Lately, I've had more frequent low tires & flats. I took the car in for service on 10/22/14 & was told I cannot wait any longer to replace the rims for safety reasons. I had waited as long as possible due to financial reasons. Another 2 people told my husband @ work that they have constant air leaks from their tires & flats from the PT cruiser. I will forward this site.
I hope more people will lodge complaints about this but it is doubtful Chrysler will do anything about this until people are injured or killed. Thank You for this opportunity report this.
