PT Cruiser

  • Automatic transmission
  • 124,000 miles

Pulled into a parking lot & the place was closed but they let me use their phone. I parked my PT cruiser convertible & tried to put my car in drive but the shifter was lax. I went in to use the business phone to call a tow truck. The tow company, BP Auto Club would not help me as I thought it was from a bump or pot-hole & they refused to help. It turned out it was not a collision with a pot hole after all.

The man that worked at the business came out & we looked under the car. & checked the transmission fluid & I was able to get it to go into drive that was showing up as third gear. So I drove home. The next day I was not able to get it to start as it did not sense it was in Park or neutral.

I walked to the shop & they called a tow truck & the tow truck guy manually got the shifter to go into neutral & towed my car. $297.00 later it was a melted shifter cable that they said melted against the exhaust. This could have happened anywhere. It could have been very dangerous It is dangerous anywhere in Rockford to be stranded anywhere because of all the gun crime. this is the 2d time the shifter went lax. I will have to look up to see what the problem was the last time this happened. How could this be designed this way & not be a recall?
