After getting out of my car and noticing a oil leak on the driveway, I took it to my mechanic and he diagnosed it as a failed front crank seal. Vehicle is maintained with normal maintenance and oil changes ever 3000 miles. It only has slightly over 47000 miles and a major mechanical problem.. well, I contacted Chrysler customer care and they cant help.. I had it repaired and absorbed the full cost myself..then as of this weekend 12/27/13 I had the same problem again...called Chrysler and they won't help at all I'm reading about this being a pretty common problem with the 2.4 engines isn't it time we hold out manufactures responsible"?" to at least absorb some of the cost for parts failing way too soon in their expected life...if this would have happened on a long trip I might have been in much worse shape...vehicle was 4 quarts low when I finally alerted there was another leak.

I purchased my new 2007 PT CRUISER from hayes Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Inc. In lawrenceville, ga on January 27, 2007, with 32 miles on car. I was instructed to drive the car and return in three weeks for a new car check and list my concerns regarding the car. At this time in informed the service staff that the car did not accelerate when entering the freeway and passing other cars. The service staff returned my car to me indicating that they could not find any problems with the car. A few months later the car check engine light came on. Again the service staff told me they did not find any problem with the car. My check engine light came on several time after my initial return each time the service staff did not find any problem. Each service visit I informed the service staff that the car still did not accelerate. On a routine oil change I spoke to a new service staff employee, told him of my concern and dissatisfaction with the car. After waiting for over an hour, I was told that they had finally found the problem (69K plus miles, 3 years later) the engine had misfired cylinders. I was told that apparently all this time the computer in the car and the engine were disfunctional and didn't communicate. The service staff attempt to fix what I would call a defective parts. After the fix the car still did not perform. About three weeks ago the repair failed. My check engine light came on and I was told that what was fix had broken. I was also told by the Chrysler Corp. Engine trouble should be discovered during a routine oil change. It was not in my case. It took three years of routine oil changes before they discovered the problem with the defective engine in my car. I feel hayes & Chrysler Corp should be responsible for the re-repair. Can you help or advise where I can seek assistance. Thank you

Iwas driving and entering the expressway from an on ramp when my check engine light came on after I heard a ding sound. I tried to excellerate and could not go over 20 miles an hour with out the car sputtering as if it was not getting gas. I drove to the nearest off ramp and preceded to a dealership where I had an oil change done on the same car a month prior. I had bought the car used from carmax just 4 months ago and it only had 44,000.the tech said it was probably something minor. When he called to tell me what was wrong it was not minor. The cam and crank position sensors had gone out. At the tune of $491 to fix it. I called the operations manager at carmax and all he wanted to say was thank goodness I had bought the extended warranty so it would only be $300 for the deductible. I saw that there were others with this same problem. I have had more people tell me that these cars (PT CRUISER) have many problems and that something is always going wrong with them. I wish I had never gotten this type of vechile now!!! I am stuck with this car because I cannot trade it in, I would be upside down. Hopefully I will not have the oil problems that all the others have had. If I had known they were built in Mexico I would not have even thought about buying it.

Thrust bearing failed and crankshaft was badly ground on thrust surface. Thrust bearing set only had thrust bearing surface on upper half. 5 weeks after this repair the seal failed again. Mechanic replaced the seal at no charge but could not warranty as he has no idea why it failed. Contacted Chrysler and they considered a refunding our original repair cost but then denied. I have all corresponded with Chrysler, the mechanic as well as the crankshaft and bearing pieces.
