- replace wheel bearing (2 reports)
When I bought the car in early Oct 2011, I looked at the carfax and saw that 2 wheel bearings had already been replaced. I thought, okay, they're replaced. No prob, right?
Wrong.
About toward the end of the month, I noticed the alignment was off. I thought I'd have them check it when I got my oil changed. By January, it was a loud grinding noise, and I knew it wasn't just the alignment.
They changed my oil and said, "Btw, your head gasket is leaking."
(I have that complaint posted, too. That's a whole 'nother huge can 'o worms.)
Anyway, why does my Cruiser seem to have a history of replacing wheel bearings? Is that a design flaw that Chrysler didn't forsee?

The loud grinding noise got progressively louder over the course of the two months it took me to repair it. Originally I only heard it at 50mph and by time I got them repaired two months later it was starting at 21mph. The repair guy said that Pt Cruisers need their wheel bearings replaced often. My brake pads were also more worn on the side that needed wheel bearings.
