PT Cruiser Touring 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

As I have seen in several other complaints on this site. The car will be running fine and then all of the warning lights come on, the speedo goes to zero, and the car loses power and starts to die. If it occurs while waiting for a red light the car stalls out and dies. After a few seconds you can restart the engine and move off. This is third time this car has done this but the first I have filed a complaint. Will say I WAS a Chrysler/Dodge fan, but no longer. My next vehicle will be something else. With an electrical background, believe Chrysler is not doing anything about this problem because most likely source of the problem is the expensive ECU. Most likely moisture has entered and started fouling this up inside.

PT Cruiser Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

I'd experienced a lot of similar electrical problems; call stalling, gauges jumping, dash lights flashing. My local shop finally diagnosed it as a bad ignition switch. They replaced the switch, and have experienced no similar problems.

PT Cruiser 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,000 miles

I bought my 2009 PT Cruiser in June, 2014 from Carmax; problem started not long after that; the 30 day warranty provided by Carmax covered diagnostic search, however "could not duplicate customer concern at this time" is what the diagnosis was, as they could not get it to happen while they had the car.

Since then, the problem has occurred a couple times, but what I experienced recently was enough to give someone heart failure. While accelerating onto an expressway ramp, the control panel lights flashed on again as before, the speedometer went to 0, the gas gauge went to E, the seat belt light came on. This occurred for about 15 seconds, then the panel lights went off and it was ok. I was able to continue driving. A few feet down the road, it happened again and then twice after that. This all happened in one day.

Since then, it has not happened, but I'm afraid of when this may happen again, maybe in rush hour traffic. I read the previous complaints about this, but I'm wondering if Chrysler has done anything about it. My next search is for a solution, not just to make complaints. Before this Cruiser, I owned a 2003 that I bought as a demo. That car, except for regular maintenance, routine wear and tear and tires never caused me any major problems. When it reached a little over 99,000 miles, a lot started going wrong at once, so I bought the 2009. I believe if I had fixed the 2 major things at the time, I would still have my '03.
