I purchased the 2009 PT Cruiser in July 2009, with only 25 miles on it. Within the first three months I had to replace the brakes. The tires were nitrogen filled and my low tire light constantly was coming on. It was hard to locate a business that could fill them, after many times of this I purchased new tires. Within a few weeks I had to take the car to the dealer because the air conditioner was only blowing hot air. It needed freon. The idle of the car, from day one, was up & down so I thought that was normal....until at exactly four years old and 57,000 miles, my check engine light came on and stayed on, the car began jerking terribly and lost power. Fortunately, I made it off the road. I attempted the process that is supposed to make the OBD codes show up in the odometer area, however they did not. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership (which has always been wonderful) and the problem was the Cam Shaft sensor. Thank God I purchased the extended warranty!!!!! The sensor was fixed today and I have not picked it up yet so I wonder about the idle as the sensor is there with the timing belt and I am wondering if it's an unfixed problem. My a/c is blowing only hot again and for the dealer to put it in costs $138.00 so it's living it the south with no a/c right now! I am seriously considering trading it in before anything else happens!
Update from Jul 30, 2013: The day I picked up my car from the repair I did not even make it home! At an intersection it made a huge sound (like driving fast on a flat tire), and a "gurgling" followed along with the temperature light coming on Running hot was not something this car had ever done & I was stopped for only a minute. I called the dealership and had it towed right back to them. The dealership was great and they gave me a loaner car. They called to tell me that it was the cooling fan. Hmmm. I am waiting to see if my extended warranty covers this as well and if I am going to be charged another deductible!

Engine dies and restarts (manual transmission). Gages go haywire. Scary when trying to pull out into traffic. Has been going on for over a year, but has gotten really bad now. Replaced PCM - no better. Replaced TIPM - no better. Software issue?
